I grabbed my Starbucks today to gear up for long lines at the polls, but when I got there to vote, there were no lines at all.

I left one day early just so I could vote at "home" in MA - I really hated leaving Gilford on such a gorgeous day.
I was hearing that there were lines everywhere (a really good thing), so I planned to vote at a time when I thought it wouldn't be busy (after lunch and before school got out).
I got to my local school at 1:00 pm, and I was in and out in 5 minutes.
If you haven't yet voted, please do - it's a privilege not to be taken for granted. :patriot:

We voted in Laconia around 5:45. Absolutely no lines. We walked in and voted right away. We spent more time driving to the polls than actually voting. Some of the sign holders told us that earlier in the day it was quite busy.

Arrived to vote at the high school in Alton at 5:45 and didn't get out until 6:10 PM - there was a 20 min wait just to check in and that was just for last names starting with A through G (I think it was "G" - anyhow...)
It was a huge turn out! Yea Alton! :)

No lines in Effingham at all. Not like we're Concord or Manchester. 3 people standing outside supporting their parties. Oh, and free chocolates!

About 80% of all Meredith voters showed up to vote, which is a very high turnout.
In Meredith, John McCain got 1857 votes, and Barack Obama got 1964 votes.
John Sununu got 1921 votes, and Jeanne Shaheen got 1725 votes.
Jeb Bradley got 1857 votes, and Carol Shea-Porter got 1797 votes.
For the first time in I do not know how long, one of Meredith's two state reps is a Democrat. Kate Miller got 1975 votes.
In the race for Belknap County Commissioner, Ed Philpot got 3895 votes, and Frank Tilton got 3331 votes. Anyone know when was the last time a Democrat won that election?
In the NH state senate, some of the names have changed but the overall numbers of 14 Democrats and 10 Republicans remains the same.

I'm not surprised. The state has voted Democrats for President 4 out of the last 5 elections (Clinton/Clinton/G.W. Bush/Kerry/Obama).
I was in and out of the Meredith polls at around 4:50 PM.

The NH Republican party picked up 19 house seats yesterday. Just 4 years ago Republicans had almost 300 House seats, 18 seats in the Senate, all 5 seats on the GC, and had the governor's office. NH is more blue.....but not as much as people think. From what I hear John Sununu is thinking of running for goveror in 2 years, and I suspect the NH House & Senate will go red again sooner rather than later.

In September 2002, then Congressman Sununu challenged fellow Republican Senator Bob Smith (of Wolfeboro) in the primary, and went on to defeat Gov Shaheen to become NH's junior senator.
So, by replaying the same strategy, former Senator Sununu could challenge Senator Judd Gregg in the September, 2010, Republican primary. Hey, it worked for him back in Sept, 2002 :D?
Who knows, maybe Senator Gregg will decide to retire with his $850,000 Powerball, quik pik, win?
So, the Republican chairman of the Senate finance & economics committee is playing Powerball scratch tickets and wins $850,000. on a 5 out of 6 win back on Oct 20, 2005. No big surprise then that they did not believe in mortgage banking regulations.

Two words for you on banking regulation failure Less, BARNEY FRANK.
(You brought it up.)

Poor Less, never one to let the facts get in the way of a good diatribe.
Senator Gregg was the Chair of the Senate Budget Committee when he fairly won the lottery. He was not the Chair or even a member of the Finance Committee. Senator Sununu currently sits on the Finance Committee.

So, has former Senator Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) already started running for the NH governor's office in November, 2010......could be.....who knows? Being a governor must be a much more challenging job than being a senator.
That's a political move, going from senator to governor that hardly ever happens, usually it's the other way around.
Could be he'll have lots of free time this winter to be hitting those Waterville Valley slopes? Say, the four happy Republicans....former Senator Sununu...former Congressman Bass...former Congressman Bradley...and Senator Gregg...would make for a very happy, group photo, on the Waterville Valley chairlift. .....all aboard!
Believe that New Jersey's Gov John Corzine went that route, but not as a default option. Unlike former Senator Sununu, Gov Corzine never lost his job as NJ's senator.

Not to mention the fact that the Powerball lottery is not even run in the state of NH.

Sorry Chip Powerball is in NH.....I even have a ticket I bought at the state store in summer of 2007 that was a winner I didn't cash because we couldn't get back to the Lake within a year
There was also a $67.0MM winning ticket back in April of 2007

Ooops, I should clarify. I meant to say that Powerball was not run BY the state of NH. I realize that the state does have the Powerball lottery, but the state of NH does not run it. Does that make sense? Here, this should help...
The Multi-State Lottery Assn, which runs Powerball, was formed in 1987. NH began selling Powerball in 1995.

That is very interesting. That being the case they should have been able to cash my NH ticket down here in CT because they are all merely agents of the mother ship.
But I would assume it has somthing to do with their vig and not getting the inbound side of the tranasction

OK that is my lame attempt at keeping this on topic.
Anyway, read the FAQs on the powerball website. Not only is it very entertaining, there is info there regarding where you can cash in your ticket over state lines etc. Short answer...depends on the state.

If you google "Senator Powerball', you'll get more than ten different takes on Senator Judd Gregg's October 20, 2005, Powerball quikpik, 5 out of six number win of about $853,000.
Stopping at Washington DC gas station to gas up the Chevy Suburban, Senator Gregg placed a twenty on the counter, and purchased four 5-dollar quik-pics, one was a winner with five out of six matching numbers.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that, he has every right to play the lottery....it's his money. At the time, he was Chairman of the US Senate Committee of Finance...which oversees the federal regulations for banking.

Once again, this is not true.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley was the Chair of Finance when Senator Gregg won the powerball. Gregg was not even a member of the Finance Committee, let alone ever being its Chair.
Please check your facts.
