Snowmobiling on the lake

When typing my last post, I thought I would ask the following question (possibly controversial, and if I over step the rules, I am sorry for bring this up). Once the lake freezes and we take our sleds on the ice, does the speed limit apply to snowmobiles? With the new law going into effect on 1/1/09, and the lake freezing soon after (I hope), I was wondering if the boat rules will apply?

I'm not really sure (as it is not my sport), but doesn't NH already have an existing speed limit for snowmobiling? I work with some guys who are really into it, and I think this is the reason they only go to Maine.

We only started last year and it appeared to us that on the lake, the limits didn't apply.

On the trails it was clear there were limits, but the lake............................

The speed limit is "AN ACT relative to general rules for vessels operating on water." So, if you are skimming over 45, you can get two tickets, but if on ice, you fall under the reasonable and prudent for existing conditions rule. Under the right conditions, 80 is fine. Over 120, you are probably pushing reasonability.

As for the state speed limits, Winni is not a trail.

10 MPH
• Within 150 feet of a bobhouse or fishing hole.
• On sidewalks that are open to OHRVs.
• On bridges that are posted open to OHRVs.
• At trail junctions, in parking lots and when passing trail grooming equipment.
• Public ways open to OHRV use.
15 MPH
• On plowed roads on D.R.E.D. Property.
35 MPH
• On all trail connectors.
• At night on Back Lake in Pittsburg.
45 MPH
• On all trails where no speed limit is posted.
55 MPH
• Turtletown Pond, Concord
