An article in the Union Leader reveals estimate for repair to the Weirs boardwalk at 2 1/2 million dollars. Right now Laconia is responsible for the cost of repair. A section of the Weirs Boardwalk washed away (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6565) during a recent summer storm. There was no insurance coverage.

You can read the article HERE (http://www.theunionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Laconia+facing+%242.5m+tab+o n+Weirs+Beach+deluge&articleId=76435230-bab9-431c-b416-5759f1b4f9ff)

No insurance - pretty irresponsible of Laconia.

Does the boardwalk fit any criteria that would make it an official "Historical Place"? I would think it's been there long enough!? Maybe they could get some funds that way, too!

Surprising that the insurance didn't cover it; must be just liabilty. I mean physical liability, not fiscal.

Boy.....I was surprised by this. Is the boardwalk not something that was ever insured ?

It is not unusual that many municipalities are self-insured. They create a fund for a future need.

Before we condemn something, let's do the research, folks.

YIKES! Well, a million dollars doesn't go as far as it used to.
