Please count me in. I'll be heading up from NJ on the 19th, so the 20th is a great date! I'll also bring some snacks such as chips & dip.

Hi members!

Yeehaw! Sounds like this thing is gonna' happen!

I have dock space and two moonings available for boaters (island people get first dibs) on Braun Bay. We'll set up a shuttle to the loon center.

If you want a docking spot call me, 455-7178, I don't go on line every day.

Steve and ArgiesFrau...If you need tables, chairs, etc. let me know. I can do a setup before the rabble rousers show up!

Misty Blue.

Yes, FOOD!

Food is good... :liplick:

Food and I go way back... a little too far back... :D

If posters would kindly mention what they plan on bringing when RSVP on this thread, that would be great...

I'm not sure what we'll bring... I may wait to see what the need is (i.e. dessert, salad, etc.) and go from there.... :)

I really was looking forward to meeting some members in person, unfortunately I have my son's (and my) Scout troop at the lake for a campout that same weekend- along with work on motorboating, small boat sailing, canoeing and swimming merit badges. I don't think I will be able to break out at all.

Hi all -

I'm relatively new to the forum (but not to the Lake).

I have opened a second massage therapy practice in Meredith (main office is in MA). I would like to donate a gift certificate for the Forum Fest, and I am hoping to attend.

I just got off the phone w/ Dr. Harry Vogel. He is pleased that the Loon Center is this years location for Forum Fest.

Either he, or his Sr. Biologist, John Cooley will be at the event to give a short talk on the mission and goals of the Loon Center.

Argie's Wife made a great suggestion to show up a little early and take the hike(s) on the trails they have. Mrs. SteveA and I took the hikes last year. You travel back in time to unspoiled land. Well worth the trip. (Wear good shoes !)

He also confirmed the computer hook-up is available for Lakegeezer.

Reminder.. food and soft drinks OK.. adult beverages NOT OK.

Hi Steve - Thanks for the note....

Are you good for bringing in some chili this year? :)

(You usually do, as I've heard, but you hadn't mentioned it yet... so I thought I'd check.... If not, that's cool!)

The Forum Fest is free for all who care to come, right? There might be others with this same concern, coming empty handed. Not everyone is expected to bring something to either raffle, use, or put in your mouth. I don't think anyone should avoid the fest because they lack things to bring. Or if they can't think of anything to bring. If I can get there I will not have anything to bring. I will donate for raffle tickets. That is all OK right?

If I had one of those dunk tanks, I'd bring it along. You know what I mean, a seat suspended over a big tub of water. Throw a ball and hit the bullseye and the seat drops which dumps the seated one into the tub. We could probably collect a lot of donations for each ball and attempt. I know I would want to have enough balls to be sure I dunked certain people. Maybe those who claim to love water will volunteer to be the dunkees .

I remember years ago my school had a fair to raise money and they dunked the teachers. It was the biggest attraction at the fair.

Gilligan - I'm on the fly so forgive the short answers but...

The announcement says "please" in reference to the request food; it doesn't say "you will" or "you must" and that's only in reference to the food.

Yes, it's free for whomever would like to come.

No, you don't have to bring a dish.

No, you don't have to bring anything for the raffle.

No, you don't need to even buy a raffle ticket.

To the best of my knowledge no one has said they aren't coming or were told not to come because they couldn't meet any of our non-mandatory standards. :)

People who have declined coming to the event have note that they had something else on their schedules...no one has said, "I can't bring food or I can't bring something to raffle, so I can't come," or did I miss something? :coolsm:

Did I do something wrong by trying to help organize this? (This is an honest question.)

P.S.
This is also my first forum fest. I'm just the chickie who wants to meet all y'all after being on this board for 4 years!

P.S.S.

Gilliagan - if YOU want to get in that dunk tank, I'll buy a ticket or two for that!!! :):):):):):)

Argie's Wife, you are correct (except for the "doing something wrong" part). Forum Fest has always been just a simple meet and greet. It's always free and everyone is welcome. People come and go during the allotted time . . . some come for the entire time and others just drop in for a short visit. It's completely up to the individual. Food is brought by those who want to and raffle items are donated by those who wish to do that. Again, completely up to the individual. No one needs to feel they can't attend because they can't bring something. Bringing a big smile and warm handshake is all that is necessary.

So, for all of those who are wavering, PLEASE COME!!!! It's a real fun time!:D

GWC's 3rd posted picture was the punch line of a behind the scenes joke - It's why they were smiling in this picture (all from photopost Forum Fest gallery) a pic of the northern end - the full frontal shot:

Did I do something wrong by trying to help organize this? (This is an honest question.)

You did ask an honest question and I have an honest answer: you've done nothing wrong, just the opposite. In fact you should be applauded for stepping up to the plate and coordinating the activities. A very big Thank You to Argie's Wife. IMO Gilligan was just confirming what he should have already known.

Everyone should feel welcome to come to Forum Fest. We've had people come who are "regular" posters and those who are "irregular". Some are lurkers and not on the membership list (but they recognize some names and talk about the latest forum topics). Friends and family also join the FESTivities.

Speaking of a forum regular (or irregular? Hmmm) - in one of the Forum Fest pictures GWC posted in this thread you just might see Fat Lazy Less :D You never know who you'll meet at a Forum Fest :)

Thanks again AW, I look forward to meeting you at Forum Fest 2008.

Skipper of the Sea Que - Thank you for the kind words...

I've really only done the secretarial part of this and love organizing things (not just events - but things in general.) I like bringing order to chaos. Really, the people coming to the event, donating items, buying raffle tickets and bringing food make the event AN EVENT. :)

I realized with Gilligan's post that I hadn't noted in the invite that it was free and there were no obligations or requirements. The invite was edited that day to include that information. I did note in my response that I was "on the fly" (meaning I was headed out the door when I responded). I'm sorry if I sounded short - I wasn't bugged by his questions, just in a rush.

I sorta answered the "did I do something wrong..." question myself... I learned I had assumed everyone would assume it was set up as it usually was... that was my bad and I fixed it. :o

There's supposed to be good weather on 9/20. It's supposed to be about 68 degrees and sunny all day. A perfect day for a gathering of friends!

See you at Forum Fest!

ToW here!!!!! Still looking like this :D

Mrs. ToW and I were not able to make the fest again this year:(

We have been VERY busy finishing the re-build of our home. It will be done in a week or so.

The pics were from a couple years ago.

To say were caught in a.... um.... compromising pose is to say the least. GWC got us good on that one weak moment is our lives:D

But all is in fun.
