This time of year brings us the dreaded South winds. This is a moderately rough day yesterday. Photo from Inside the breakwater.

This weekend was absolutely calm (except for all the boat wakes!). Beautiful weather.

I'm not sure why this photo was posted here -- it certainly isn't anything from Winni yesterday.

I don't believe it is Lake Winni....but if I'm wrong, wow! The lake looks pissed!

This was taken yesterday, just inside a breakwater, Plattsburgh NY Lake Champlain. It was on another site, and thought it was pretty cool myself. Last time I was stupid enough to be out in that kind of water, I couldn't seem to hold a camera  And silly me, it was a bit rougher than that.

To keep the thread relevant to Winnipesaukee, it could the lake today!

A friend in NY state often advises of his weather: we get the same weather the next day.

"...This was taken yesterday, just inside a breakwater, Plattsburgh NY Lake Champlain..."
Lake Champlain has sea lampreys, which prey on adult freshwater fish. Trailering a boat from there to here could harbor one inside—with eggs!

How could you possibly have known that?
You could infer it from certain posts here expressing certain positions on NH legislation. I could have guessed it. :rolleye1:

It looked a lot like that just outside of my cove last Tuesday.

It looked a lot like that just outside of my cove last Tuesday. Similar around most parts of Lake Winnipesaukee last Tuesday. It must have been a little more rough out in the broads.

I watched a bit of a breeze kicking up the surf outside the window where I was on Winnie last Tuesday (Aug 19) too. My daughter Lauren was playing with her new camera and tried to capture the whipped up waves. Almost no boats out - these are all natural waves, not boat wakes. This is looking from the beach at Silver Sands, Sanders Bay in Gilford out between Timber Island on the left and Round Island on the right.

Another look at waves viewed from the Silver Sands Beach out toward the north and the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club. Again, all natural wave action.

Going out on the boat in this weather is not a problem for some - it's getting back in the slip that can be a bit more complicated. :)

note: In the picture from the Thread Starter the guy in the Sail Boat is probably yelling to his mother-in-law to get out of the bow and back to the stern (or jump overboard?). She didn't understand ballast!:emb:

How much wake could you make if this were in a no wake zone?

I am familiar with Lake Champlain as well -in the pic you can tell its the Plattsburgh Boat basin. Great lake, but can be nasty. It gets way rougher than Winni

Vermont added (http://www.dencities.com/champlain.html) a line-item to a bill in Congress to name Lake Champlain America's sixth "Great Lake".

(Formerly just Superior, Erie, Michigan, Ontario, and Lake Huron were recognized as "The Great Lakes".)
