Replacement windshield

I uncovered by boat this weekend and found the middle flip window busted and bent. Apparently there was to much snow on the boat. My first casuality in 30 years. Can I assume that I will have to go back the the marina I bought this boat from(7 years old) to get a replacement. Is there any other sources/solutions to my problem. One good thing is I can still go boating since I never have the window closed anyway but presents a problem when covering.

I got a part for my 79 evinrude at M&M Salvage in Meridth. there was an add in the Weirs Times this past week. He charges 50% of new cost.

Dealer would be a good place to start, but if that does not pan out, Taylor Made makes most of the windshields and you may be able to get it directly from them.

If it's a flat or nearly flat piece you can use plexiglass from the hardware store. Just cut it to size. If the frame isn't bent too bad you should be able to salvage it.

The factory piece will be expensive, I'll guess around $500, maybe more.

Most local glass shops can't help you because it's usually tempered glass.

Plexiglass would have been very reasonable, but Granite State Glass will custom make any sized tempered glass replacement.

Not for a boat, but I ordered a one-quarter inch tempered 8'x3' for a little over $125. Outside dimensions could been kept even closer than the 1/8" I requested.

When I had reason to look, none of the local glass shops were interest in making a custom size and curved piece of tempered glass. I've had flat pieces made to order for shower doors. But curves are a lot harder to get.

Since the curve was subtle, I used plexiglass and helped it to make the curve with a heat and elbow grease. A tight curve would have been beyond my skills.

Finding the exact part from the factory is the best solution.
