I understand the Sears store in Gilford closed yesterday. I don't believe they are moving elsewhere in this area and anyone looking for large appliances and items Sears stocked will have to make the trek to Concord from now on. It will be missed, as stores of this kind are few and far between in this area. You could always depend on Sears and the Kenmore brand is excellent.

It is too bad that they closed, we bought many Kenmore items there over the years. It was a great local service. Maybe a lot of the business went over to Lowe's.

The business was for sale for quite a while. The owner had other interests. Guess no one was find it profitable enough.

When Lowe's was set to open, I predicted that many of the local stores would close by offering a combination of mediocre service, high prices, and inconvenient hours. Others posters, dutifully supporting their local merchants, called me a traitor for predicting the inevitable.

When I moved here, I bought ALL my appliances through that Sears outlet, based on my respect for the brand name. The service was reprehensible, the attitudes of the owners and employees rude and very unfriendly. They deserved to fail, and more local retailers will follow in their wake. They have not changed in the face of changing customer expectations.

Sears of Gilford, RIP.

I ordered 2 red heat lamps for my bathrooms from a local light company which will go unnamed. They tried to charge me $260.00 each. As I walked out because I knew the price was insane they started screaming at me....and yelling ! I went to Home Depot in Tilton and purchased the same 2 red heat lamps for $70 each ! You need to be careful when you shop. I also went to this Sears store years ago....and walked out. The service was so bad no one would believe it, unless like you, they experienced it.

Over in Plymouth, close to Wal-Mart, there's a different Sears franchise store that is well stocked and well run. The store has lots and lots of kitchen & laundry appliances, air conditioners, tools, lawnmowers, sno-thros, chainsaws, pumps, hot water tanks, tools, televisions, exercise equip, and mark-down bargains, & tools.

Everyone who works there has a good attitude and they know the product lines. Believe it is owned/managed by a local husband/wife. It's been there for about ten years now with the same franchise owners.

Whatever they don't have, they can get it fast, and they do deliveries.

Gee whiz, maybe I should go apply for a job there? It would definately be a step up from unemployment and less dirty work than painting! :D

My favorite is Major Brands.....same prices as the box stores but the service is GREAT.......they install and service what they sell......recently bought a new washer&dryer...they couldn't do enough for us...Installers were great.

There's also a small Sears store in North Conway. Very nice people but not a ton of inventory but they get deliveries quickly.

The Gilford Sears is moving to the building on Route 3 in Tilton that is now Channel Marine.

The Gilford Liquor Store will be moving into the store where the Sears is now. (Next to Patrick's Pub)

hope they survive the influx of Home Depot and Lowes, I bought all my appliances for my camp there.

I heard Sears was moving to a space in the Wal-Mart plaza in Gilford.

I wanted to Echo Fatlazyless regarding the Sears Plymouth store.

We just bought a set of appliances from the Gilford Sears store, which were delivered to the house last Tuesday. When we arrived this past weekend, we realized that the fridge was the wrong one (honestly, not sure if it was us or Sears Gilford). Easy enough, right -- Sears is known for exceptional customer service -- so all I need to do is call Sears on Tuesday after Memorial Day (their answering machine said they were closed for the Memorial Day weekend, but would return Tuesday) to arrange a fix -- only to learn that the number is disconnected!

I called the Plymouth store to help us out. I wanted to put a plug in for them as well. So far, they have been exceptional with their service and are jumping through hoops to help us out.

A friend who recently purchased a house strongly recommends Major Brands as well. Personally, I would much rather support the local guys rather than the big chains. In general, you get much better service and knowledge (but there are exceptions, of course).

So, we all read earlier that the Sears store in Gilford at Patrick's Plaza had closed. Today, I saw "Sears Coming Soon" at a building in Winnisquam, on Route 3. I think this location used to sell boats and/or trailers, so I presume it would be an appliance/home store.

As far as the old location - The Gilford Liquor Store moves there very soon, from their current location at the "Airport Plaza" (where the cinema is). No E.T.A. for the move, but it sounds like a pretty sure bet.

Word on the street.
