Hi all,

I heard through the back channel that the new owner of the New Hampshire Speedway is trying to move one of the NASCAR races to his track in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately I think this is just a matter of when not if. With the popularity of Nascar it will be hard for any market to hold on to 2 races.

That's how Bob Bahre got his two races. It might not be a definate cuz these races are always sold out.

I would say that within 3 years Loudon will lose one of it's races. The other race will move to another of his Motor Speedways that holds more than Loudon does. It will be a shame and make getting tickets much harder. Hopefully, NH can keep him from wanting to move.

I thought this might be viewed as a good thing by some, it would keep all those "Non-Native Out-Of-Staters" and their millions of dollars out of New Hampshire for at least one more weekend, no?

Sure, what goes next restaurants, Motels, stores? This fight..er..discussion has gone on for ages between "natives" and some "out-of-staters" who feel they are keeping N.H. afloat. Much of the lakes region economy is fueled by vacationers whether it be boaters, hunters, skiers, fisherman etc...It's my opinion this isn't a bad thing but then again I don't live "up there" full time either.

Just an FYI for those that like the races but find them too expensive there is a way to go for free. Many non-profits, including snowmobile clubs, etc. 'work' the races by picking up trash and other duties. Not only does the club get paid but the workers get to watch most of the race. The more people a club has the more they get paid.

How does a club go about doing this? Do you have a contact at the track to sign up? Thanks in advance.

I had never heard about this program until Seeker mentioned it, this must be a new-ownership change as it's the first year they are doing it. Thanks for the info, Skip!

Bahre makes big donation to Loudon

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) _ Bob Bahre has sold his NASCAR racetrack in Loudon (New Hampshire), but he's not forgetting the track's neighbors.

Without fanfare, Bahre gave Loudon selectmen $450,000 this month and asked them to split it between a half dozen churches, the town library and students struggling to afford college. And he said he didn't want them to make a big deal about where the money came from.

Bahre helped many community organizations in the 20 years he ran the New Hampshire International Speedway before selling it last fall for $340 million.

Library trustees and church elders are considering how to spend the money, and Merrimack Valley High School predicts the gift will help up to 15 of their students attend college in the fall.

Apparently O. Bruton Smith and SMI have just purchased Kentucky Speedway. This is a beautiful facility that hosts just about all the big name racing series in the US except NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series. There's really no reason for SMI to purchase this facility unless it has a Cup race, but how can it get that coveted Cup race? Hmmmmmm, I wonder........

Remember... that is exactly how NHIS got it's second race date. Bahre got together with Bruton Smith (owner of Texas Motor Speedway) and together they bought North Wilksboro...and then stole both of it's race dates. One to Texas and the other to NHIS. This truly marked the beginning of the end of "old school" nascar. Tracks like North Wilksboro were what Nascar was truly about. But as it grew (too quickly), small tracks were fazed out. Too bad...it was my favorite track.
Anyway, I guess my point is this....noone has any right to complain one bit about NHIS losing a date....they are losing it the exact same way they got it.

NASCAR is saying it's "too late" to get a Kentucky race date on the 2009 schedule. Bruton is not happy and lawyers are involved. Be interesting to seee how it works out.

sa meredith, I agree and am certainly not complaining. Businesses try to make money. Bruton thinks he can make more money moving one of the NH dates. I'd do the same thing if I were in his shoes.

Interesting read http://www.sirius-speedway.com/on the SMI Kentucky Speedway merger. Looks like NHMS is in for two dates in 2009….

I would love to see the addition of a dragstrip, like SMI has at almost every other one of their tracks!!!
