Since everyone is sick of winter, speed limits, and politics I thought that I would ask for help with something a bit more fun. The puppy in the attached picture is the latest resident of Mark Island and remains unnamed after a week. We cannot come up with anything and I am afraid that if left to our 8 year old and my wife it will be something pathetic. He is a 5 month old Japanese Chin.
I was trying to come up with something lake, Jimmy Buffett, or Red Sox related. Any suggestions???
Please help before he becomes permanently named "Chin"...

I suggest MARKIS (as in Mark Island). Just remember, when the little devil gets out late at night and you have to call his name over and over, you don't want to sound like a fool.:)

"Nikko" -- which is a beautiful Japanese lake nestled in the lush, green mountains of north-central Japan.
Here's a slice of the lake and the surrounding mountains (the focus of this shot was Kagon Falls...)

I'd shy away from using a current player's name... say you call him "Manny", then in 2009 when Manny is a Yankee (after the Sox don't exercise his option years), you will be forced to kill your own dog. That would be very sad for you and the kids, although not as sad as having a dog named after a Yankee. ;)
Try "Yaz" or "Teddy" or some such if you want a player's name!

Mark-a-rita could work with both sexes.
I vote for the front part of that  .
Call the dog Mark just that I only go with one sex.
Another few choices:
Clyde
How about BEAR
or even Speedy
There already is a Bizer dog so how about a Duncan dog.
There is always the generic Rover.

we would just watch them wattle around (groan)
According to here (http://www.chinpuppies.com/info.html) the Chin is an intelligent and loyal dog and soon finds a way to rule the house. Well with 3 larger dogs around that may not be too successful, but Chins will surround themselves with the ones that love them.
I think because the pup will rule the house and owners (didn't know that did ya?) and because of the status of Winni property (King being used too often) Baron is a good strong name.
It kind of looks like the only time you will be yelling across the neighborhood for him will be non-snowfall times both for his color and, anything over a dusting and you might lose him .

Does he have any type of a kennel name? That may not be the correct term (it's too late for me to call my mom, who is a Shih-tzu breeder, for the answer). Anyway, part of my my 9-year old Shih-tzu's registered name is "Bear To Remember" which evolved into calling him Remmy*, and Rem-Dog* as a nickname. His name fits his personality, and you definitely have to keep personality in mind when naming a pooch -- sometimes the doggy will end up "naming himself", so to speak, lol!
*These names had, and have, absolutely NOTHING to do with Jerry Remmy or the Red Sox, Rem has been Rem since before any of that happened. I'm thinking I should have TM'd the name "Rem-Dog" years back, lol! :rolleye2:

If you want to stir the pot, name the dog after your mother or mother in law.
I told my sister I was naming my dog after my mother, and boy did that stir the pot. Well, the dog was born on her birthday so.... Mom named the dog BINGO, something shed does every sat night in NH during the summer.

Steve Martin's character in "The Jerk" had a somewhat unique name for his dog (http://www.thespinningimage.co.uk/cultfilms/displaycultfilm.asp?reviewid=1321).
Being in the general proximity of Bear Island, some there (http://www.winnfabs.com/) might think you are referencing them when you call your dog.

I'd be a bit uneasy about giving him a current Sox player's name. I'm sure someone out there probably named a pet (or even a kid) "Damon" or "Johnny" after the '04 World Series. And then the unthinkable happened....

I used to work as a vet tech assistant and I have seen THAT NAME used many, many times for dogs and cats. It's hard to call a patient to an exam room when you can't say their name in public!
