In my search for "old" winni stuff, I ran across this post card.

I can't figure out the view I'm looking at (from?). It looks like Rattlesnake is the most distant island.

Seller claims it's from 1940-50

Does that make it a view that is exempt from the view tax, or a property tax, because it was photographed from Brewster Academy, a private secondary school with an excellent reputation?

Good thing Brewster is not a post 12th grade school like a college, otherwise all those open fields would be all built out with homes by now. NH being the only state that property taxes private colleges, and post-12th grade schools.

Shame, shame, shame on New Hampshire for that idiotic law!

I remember a picture from dcr from that looked like the same angle from a higher spot. Maybe it was from Longstack as Jonas Pilot suggested.

I'll have to look at his gallery.

It may very well be from the Brewster property as FLL suggested.

I agree with RH that the spot in the picture seems to be the approximate location of the view.

I disagree that it is anywhere near Brewster or downtown Wolfeboro. Looks like the Roberts Cove area to me. Wolfeboro can be seen at the right-middle of the photo.

But any chance to make every thread a political mis-statement....

I've been checking out THESE PHOTOS (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopost/search.php?searchid=577) of Rattlesnake from Robert's Cove and I don't think it's quite right. It can't be Clay Point because there are no islands between there and Rattlesnake. So I'm going to go with Springfield Point which would mean that in the immediate foreground would be Melody and Keniston Islands.... a little further out would be Barndoor and Little Barndoor? Further off and to the right (and fainter) Parker Island?

....Ummmm.....you can't see Rattlesnake from Brewster Academy.

What is Longstack?

(Is there a prize for the right guesser????)

Not sure were it is... but you can own the top of it for a just $1,125,000. A bargain at twice the price!

If you Google map for the house.. 27 Friar Tuck Lane Wolfeboro... and if you expand the map a little.. it looks like there could be a view that included "Wolfeboro" in the right of the picture and out over the lake towards Rattlesnake.

Rattlesnakes Guy's guess looks better and better.. and Jonas Pilot looks on the money calling the view from Longstack.

FLL... you look like you missed this one.. it can't be Brewster.. McDude is correct.. you can't see Rattlesnake from Wolfeboro dock which is near Brewster.

McDude... sorry no prizes... (you won everything at the last Forum Fest anyway. Or was the big winner Mac?):laugh::laugh:

Scale of the trees in the foreground and islands suggest it is not that far away.

This is our favorite boat ride. (pink line) Great sunsets.

Calm on rough days.

It is definitely the view that Rattlesnake Guy suggested. It looks to be taken from about the Alton/Wolfeboro town line looking out over the Varneys and Barndoor with Rattlesnake in the distance. We live near there and are familiar with that area of the lake. Here is a link to another postcard in photopost called "Winnipesaukee Islands" that appears to have been taken from about the same place. Based on some correspondence I had with Rattlesnake Gal, she guessed it was from about 1906-1910 based on the description of the postage required.
