Sled to pull behind snowmobile

Do people have any recommendations for a sled that could be pulled behind a snowmobile? I want to use it to haul supplies to the island and limit the number of back and forth trips. I have seen some of the flimsy black jetsleds - how do those stand up? Also, where would be the best place to buy one - snowmobile dealers, walmart, somewhere else?

They sell great heavy duty plastic ones at the Taxidermy place at the Traffic circle, 28 by pass, in Manchester..not sure the cost but the are rugged. We have used a nice heavy duty tarp in the past, just bunch it up nice-n-tight with rope, it seems to ride on top of the snow better then a sled..but it takes some practice folding and bunching it up so everything stays in. Islanders know EVERYTHING THAT COME TO THE ISLAND WILL EVENTUALLY COME OFF OF THE ISLAND...WOULDN'T LIVE AT THE LAKE ANY OTHER WAY!:emb:

I have been using a Jet Sled for a number of years, however I am now looking for the more durable steel framed traditional dog sled style sled. The hitch that comes with the jet sled is flawed. It's fine going up hill or across flat terrain, but be prepared for it to come off at the worst possible time when heading down hill. The rear portion of my Jet Sled is also worn through at the bottom, so beleive it or not, they DO wear.

I have seen some deeper ones. I would derfinitely go with a deeper one. If you spin any track or kick up much snow during your ride, your cargo will be covered in snow. But I suppose that could be expected and you could tarp anything that's sensitve to the weather.

My dad has one right in Wolfeboro. I think he would sell it. Email me and I'll get in touch with him. The one he has is steel and holds three kids and a ton of equipment. It looks like a dog sled. It doesn't come with the great memories, you have to make your own. My email is pepto6972@comcast.net.

I agree. the only way to go is the steel fold-up dogsled type. You can always sell it later for just about what you paid for it. Probably run around $160. but will last forever.

The bait store in Meredith sells an Otter brand sled. I have had one for 4 years. It is heavy black plastice with Hyfax runners. It is very rugged with a metal "Y" frame to attach to your sled. They come in two sizes. I have the larger one. I beleive I paid about $50.00 for it. It comes with a waterproof cover as well.

I highly recommend it.
