Dock Bubbler question - leave it in or take it out?

I pulled my circulator out and have been told that it would be better to leave it in the water all summer to prevent corrosion / rusting.

Any thoughts?

I would do exactly the same as you. Yank it out. If leaving it in the water will stop it from corroding then why do chains on moorings rust, weaken and pull apart over time. Take it out let it dry out then spray some WD40 in it for the summer. That is my 2 cents. :liplick:

You are spraying a solvent (http://www.wackyuses.com/wd_40.html ) in hopes of providing lubrication (http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8476).

If left exposed to the elements, rust will do its thing.

Remember, rust never rests. :D

When you take the circulator out be sure and store it with the propeller side down, that way the lubrication stays on the shaft inside the motor assembly.
Otherwise the chances are it will seize.

Just out of curiosity ..... what are your annual operating costs for your circulator? When do you start/stop it? I'm considering not taking out my dock & boatlift this fall; using a circulator instead. But, the electrical costs have me worried.

On an island you put it in the last thing (ours goes in Dec.). You don't have to turn it on the minute you put it in. Use a timer also. Unfortunately the lake level goes up and down so it has to be adjusted.
also, sometimes the electricity goes off and on the island you might not know. Not sure of the cost yet, they haven't read our meter since last fall.
