View Full Version : Pock marks in snow on lake

Saturday morning, looking out at the snow-covered lake, I noticed that the snow was covered with pock marks, each perhaps a couple of inches wide, and spaced randomly every 2-5 feet apart, going out as far as I could see. I saw no such holes in the snow on the deck. It looked as though the last snow was in the form of snowballs rather than distributed snowflakes. At first I thought it might be sun cups, but then I thought that would be more in a bright sun, melting situation, and then the cups would have been rather close together. Anyone explain this? CLA?

I think it is due to the wind prior to the snow freezing...

It could be last years ice fishing holes resurfaceing.I know you have to watch out for them when you water ski.

I agree with secondcurve. I seem to remember the snow on the lake ice didn't get like that until it got windy. Then it softened on a warmer day and re-froze like that.
