I need to plant a few shrubs and replace a rhododendrum. Although not the best time of the year for planting this is when I find I have the time to put in a few perennials as well. I find my choices for nurseries down here on the southern part of the lake are limited. Cameron's, in Farmington, is about the best. Does anyone have any suggestions for other places I might check out? Thanks in Advance - McD

Spider Web Gardens in Tuftonboro on 109A has a nice selection. It's not right around the corner from you, but it would make for a nice ride. Another alternative would be to stop at the Lake Street Garden Center in Salem NH on your way up to the lake. They have a very large selection and it is only 5-10 miles off the highway. Good Luck.

Precious Gardens....nice place.....I've been there often and dropped quite a few bucks there! Another nice place is MERRYMEETING GARDEN CENTER (http://www.merrymeetinggardens.com/index.html) in New Durham right on Rt. 11. ....and of course BEANS & GREENS (http://www.beansandgreensfarm.com/) in Gilford.

secondcurve: Spider Web Gardens (http://www.spiderwebgardens.com/index.htm) looks very interesting. Nice website complete with historical photos on the "about us" page! Sounds like a good field trip. I'll have to check it out!

Two thumbs up for Spider Web Gardens! We did the field trip today. A nice ride, indeed. (Wish I had taken my camera)...23 miles from Alton Mt... Knowledgeable & friendly staff, great selection of shrubs, trees and bushes as well as annuals and perrenials (and pottery, lawn furniture, fresh vegetables etc., etc.) and great prices! (There was a sale!) I found everything I was looking for!

ACutAbove: Thanks for your generous offer but I'm all set!

McDude:

I'm glad you liked Spider Web. I also enjoy wandering through their facility. Plus, the owner, Bill Stockman (sp?), has an excellent reputation in town. He is on the Tuftonboro Board of Selectman and seems to be always doing what is right for the town. He also is a big advocate of maintaining open fields in an effort to preserve the remnants of Tuftonboro's farming heritage.
