I've been to East of Suez several times. It is a very relaxing, casual place and we've never had a bad meal.

We were there on 7/22 for dinner. It wasn't crowded, as it can be on Fri/Sat nights. I had wanted to go to this restaurant for ages, but we never got around to it. Although the food was okay, it was really nothing to write home about ... nothing special. The best part is BYOB, so the tab is lower than at any other restaurant.. I was disappointed... oh well.

After many years of saying "we've got to try that place" every time we drive by, we finally had dinner.
The food was interesting and excellent, and we do love the BYOB.

:confused: Confusing is the "Closed" sign, which is clearly shown during normal working hours to discourage travelers who seek lunch outside of normal lunch hours. Lunches are being served this season.

It's a sprawling converted residence, so it's possible to drive by this gem every day without noticing it. This year, there's a huge American flag hanging about 600-feet north of the restaurant's location (sticking out from dark woods :eek2: :confused:).

This is located south of Wolfeboro, not far from where the Weston Auto Body Shop sign greets every Wolfeboro visitor.

Of the three $20 entrées, all four of us picked the chicken "rolled in macadamia nuts" with some cumin seasoning added.

The meal was pronounced excellent by each of us: as to quantity, each took some home! The salads included one vinaigrette dressing, ginger, plus a choice of two other dressings whose rarefied descriptions I missed. :o

Our BYOB was white wine: the staff brought wine glasses and offered an opener. The table is "yours" for the entire evening, so it's an especially relaxing dinner—never rushed. We gabbed overlong at our table, but were never abandoned by the attentive staff.

This is one of the quieter restaurants around: oriental music is played softly in the background. I recognized Native-Hawaiian music as we walked in—Hawaii is "east" of Suez. :emb:

As we were the same table-partners as last year's visit, we even relished the recollection of the memorable entrées we ordered from last year—that adds up to eight thumbs-up—twice! :laugh:

East of Suez has slowly and steadily become our favorite local restaurant. It's very relaxed; we always have the feeling we're eating supper on Grandma's funky old screened porch. Liz is doing an outstanding job of carrying on the tradition her father started. It's not a huge menu, but we love the fact that everything is homemade, right down to the 4 delicious choices of salad dressing.

We were surprised to be told last weekend that they actually are serving lunch this year; same basic menu, but smaller portions and lower prices. We rarely eat lunch out, though, so maybe someone else can confirm and give us a report.

IMO, the only thing that could improve East of Suez is if they stayed open all year!

I believe tomorrow is their last night for the season. We only did takeout this year and it was great. I hear on their last night that portions are often very generous!

Four of us ate at East of Suez Sunday night and it was great. Had a 6:45 reservation but we probably could have walked in and sat right down. Typically it's packed on Friday and Saturday nights but Sunday seems a little quieter. The menu is not very big but the portions were fine. All four of us ordered different things and everyone left very satisfied. Just so you know, it is B.Y.O.B. which was fine with us. Not a cheap meal by any means but we were very happy with our experience.
