There is a fireman's muster at the Castle in the Clouds on July 7th. They will be using antique firefighting apparatus in competitions. There will be a chicken BBQ and the night will end with a bonfire, which will be seen from the lake for many miles.

Thanks GWC for the extra info. :D This event looks like great fun. At the very least I will be watching for the bonfire from the lake.
I wonder how many people will call authorities about the fire in the clouds?

If you get the chance to visit this muster, by means all do it. I was fortunate to go to many handtub musters several years ago and they are very exciting. To the casual observer it may look like fun, but, believe me, to participate on the brakes takes very hard work and precise coordination. Let me just say a word about that - it is not for the faint of heart. When you get as many as 20 people on each brake, and you are trying to pump up a serious pressure head, coordination and cooperation are paramount to the success of the "pump", but, more so, to your personal safety. Anyone who has watched this event underatands what I just said, and anyone watching for the first time will get the point very quickly. The other side of these events is just looking at the handtubs themselves as pieces of antique machinery restored to precision working condition. The conversations between the teams is interesting, particularly the "old times" telling "how it was" back "then" - whenever that was.
It is a good event to take in, a piece of living history from our culture.
We are planning to be there to root on the Southorough Union 1 handtub. Go Southboro!!
