What is the lowdown with the Meredith Docks? Memorial Day weekend is upon us and it appears (for weeks now) that nobody is doing any repair work on the docks, yet a third of each dock is cordoned off with police tape; the end of one of the docks is pitched into the lake! Anybody know what's happening ?

Possibly a call to the Meredith Police Dept., the marine patrol, or the Chamber of Commerce would yield some answers. I'm sure the Common Man owners would prefer to have boaters tying up and spending their dollars in Meredith establishments.

Just call Town Hall in Meredith. They asked me to call the Public Works Dept. I called over there and got a answering machine. I left them a message looking for an update. I let know what they tell me if and when they return my call.

You might try Lakes Region Marine Construction. http://www.lakesregionmarine.com/
They're he ones that did all the additions a few years ago, but a quick look on the DES website didn't turn up any permit applications for the repairs.

At about 9:45 there appeared to be a barge there. I believe they have started repairs.

Don't forget the craft fair is in Meredith this week, so maybe it's good week to try the Wolfeboro or Alton town docks.

I did get a return call from the Town of Meredith Public Works today. According to him the work started today. There are several parts that will take a couple weeks to get in. The delay was because the job required insurance company approval to begin work as well as permitting. The person was interested as to who I was a why I had a concern. I told him that all us Winnipesaukee.com members had a concern because of the beginning of the season and the lack of repair so close to the Memorial Day weekend.

An example of goverment at its finest! I'm surprised they didn't wait until the Forth of July to get things under way.

You shoulda told them you were a reporter for a local paper who wanted to know why the local businesses were losing business because he waited to long to start the permit and insurance paperwork!

Now, now, lets be fair. A person can only get so much done in a 37 hour work week especially when they also have every holiday on the books off. :D

Man, you guys are brutal. The guy's just trying to do his job and was probably just confused about why anyone would care.

Had they started the repairs and lost out on the insurance money the taxpayers would have picked up the entire bill for the repairs so I don't understand how you can fault the town or the employee who answered the phone for the fact that they waited. With the amount of property damage that occurred with all of the flooding that took place yet again this spring it woud not be surpising if it takes time to get an adjuster on site.

While my comments were tongue in cheek, I'd bet the local businesses that are losing customers might not find this funny either.

I tied up there on Saturday and all looked good. Why did the docks need repair? Was there ice damage?

I think they cut that one close !!

If I'm not mistaken, we saw the barge departing late Thursday afternoon.

If it happened once, the ice damage can happen again. Ice damage will be reoccurring again what with the wacky winter weather.

What Meredith needs is an old, bright orange, Coast Guard ice-breaker ship, like what gets used in Sault St Marie on Lake Superior. Meredith's big Boston Whaler police boat cost just one buck without the motor so's maybe the town can get an old, beat up, 200' ice breaker for just one buck without the engines.
