Pretty sure I saw a request for quotation to repair the docks in a local paper a few weeks ago, I'm sure "they're" working on it.
This brings to mind a question I've wondered in the past...not being a resident of the Lakes Region (unfortunately). I assume the town pays for the construction/maintenane/repair of the town docks, from tax money, correct?
If that's true, I wonder why they should....
~ The financial benefit is only for the business owners that get the revenue from visitors.
~ There's no Sales Tax, so no money could be funneled directly to the town there.
~ Does the town get a piece of the meals/room tax?
I must be missing something, so I turn to you, the experts! :)

Don't you think they benefit from the taxbase of the businesses that reside near the docks?Merideth definately benefits from a strong waterfront economy that is serviced from the water.People love to go to restaurants by boat!
That's my question - what is the tax base those businesses provide to the town?
Property tax - would be the same regardless of whether it's a tourist-dependent business in a given building or not, wouldn't it?
Meals tax - does any go to the town?
Wouldn't a shop or restuarant near a popular free parking lot be worth more than a similar one with no parking? Same idea.
