Day Camp

I'm starting to look for a day camp for my oldest - he'll be 6 in early July.

Is there a good day camp that anyone here can recommend for him? We live in Alton, but we're in Laconia, Ossippee, Bristol, etc. a lot in the summer.

Oh, thank you! There's a friend of ours who is involved with the playgroup - I'll ask him about it, too (he's our chiropractor!) That might be right up my little guy's ally, as he's quite an actor and has a great memory.

I'd also be interested in more "outdoorsey" things for him... maybe I'll enroll him in more than one day camp for the summer just to give him some variety.

There is a day camp called Laughing Loon in Tuftonboro that my kids enjoyed very much. You can sign up for a week or many week. Camp runs 8 - 5 each day and offers many activities, from swimming lessons to soccer to archery.

The Audubon Society of NH has a great day camp during the Summer. It is located on Parade road in Laconia. I highly recommend it.

I made a mistake on my previous post. The Audubon Society camp is at Prescott's Farm on White Oaks Road. There is information at www.nhaudubon.org.

My son attended day camp at the NH Science Center in Holderness. The center has since changed it's name but I believe they still have a day camp which did include swimming lessons. There is also some sort of computer camp at Kingswood High School in the summer. The son of a friend of mine went and had a blast.

While driving on Route 104 last summer, my 5 year old niece saw a sign for "Camp Wood" and asked if she could attend.:laugh: We, of course, told her we'd love for her spend her summer at "Camp Wood." Yes, you may have guessed... "Camp Wood" was a sign advertising bundles of wood for campfires.

My kids have attended both the Audubon and Gunstock and loved both. The Audubon is more geared to toward nature, bugs and animals. Gunstock has different activities. My youngest daughter (now ten) preferred the Audubon over Gunstock last summer but that's probably just her preference.

I wanted to bump this back up because there's a new local camp we're going to try out this year. It's being held at the Alton Central School - it should be interesting, as it's being run by the director of the Gifted & Talented program (he's a pretty dynamic guy - the kids love him!)

It's not just for locals, either... Given what the price of gas is projected to be this summer, this might be a good alternative for many families who were going to Concord or Manchester to take their children to daycamp!
