With the more recent price hike and the possiblity of $4 gallon gas on land this summer, I wonder how it will affect the tourism this summer that everyone depends on each year.

It could give a boost to aluminum 18' runabouts with Japanese four-stroke outboards. How do you say......six gallons will fill it totally full. I know, I know...to be an anytime Lake Winni boater requires a $40k-23' fiberglass titantic with a 375hp V8......and for all us down & outers over on the poor side of the lake...how do we make do with our little aluminum outboard boats. It's called motivat'N boat'N, or sometime. Motivation is about 90% of getting out on the water.

Ever notice that just about every summer-time boater at the town docks has one thing in common. They could all stand to loose about 25 lbs of weight from their mid section. Motor boating is not a form of aerobic exercise and never will be. Probably, switching from a big motor boat to a kayak would be a healthy move for many, plus saving on the gasoline.

I'm too self conscious about my own 25 extra lbs to notice anyone else's at the gas docks. But since you bought it up... I guess the best solution is to bring back the row boat. In fact there could be large cruiser models with rows of benchs below decks; roman galley style. Then instead of bragging about horsepower, fathers could brag about their kids... "yeah well I tell you what...you get a couple of Mountian Dews in my Billy and Katie and they'll make that run from the Weirs to Braun Bay in an hour 15 flat. And if I send my wife down there then whooo-eee!!! we can do it towin' you on ski's. Assumin' you can hang on of course..."

Its already made me decide not to bring the kids to Cooperstown this year. Maybe next, but will gas be $5 gallon then?:(

I remember several years back watch a ski show in Wolfeboro where a large canoe pulled a skier. It can be done.

For this summer I have decided to not mow my lawn this in order to save gas for travel. Lets see, the gas I save should get me to the New York state line. Now how do I travel the next 300 miles?

The Mythbusters got this one right. :) I'm not sure I'd care to waterski in such a fashion though. (and the Stanford Crew team might not be available)

Even folks with lots of money to burn must have a cringe point for gas prices. $4 bucks a gallon if it gets that high is going to hurt. Maybe it'll keep folks off the throttle a bit.

Reminds me of the joke about the slaves on the Galleon getting good news and bad news....the bad news was the captain wanted to water ski!:D
