Best Pet Friendly Marinas?

Hi Everyone,

As of this writing I am the newest noobie on the forums as well as to the lake. Greetings to all.

I am purchasing a Sea Ray 270DA and looking for a pet friendly marina. I was wondering what everyone thought were the best on the lake. I also found one that has openings: Gilford Yacht Club. Can anyone help me out with some advice?

We have been at Gilford Yacht Club for seven years now and though we don't bring our dog to the lake regularly it is pet friendly. Many of our dock-mates have dogs and the pets are welcomed. There are areas to walk the dogs to keep the rest of the place 'clean'. A varied mix of large and small breeds there. In addition its a relatively small Club (only 64 slips) and everyone is friendly and helpful. We also like it because it is centrally located for hopping over to Meridith and Paugus bay in one direction, Alton and Wolfboro the other way and Center Harbor is a short trip too. Its also close to shopping and entertainment by road too. Hope you can join us.:) Feel free to contact me for any other info.

There are a few slips available. Which are more desirable, closer to the clubhouse or farther away? Or doesn't it matter? Would you have any pictures you care to share?

I second GYC. We have 3 large dogs that we bring up every weekend when we head to the island. We let them out to run while we pack the boat and they have a great time. My bulldog cracks everyone up.

I am 2/3 of the way down from the clubhouse and we like it. I don't think it matters where, everyone seems laid back. We find the people around us in the slip#is in the 20-25 range are fun, this is where we are.

Location is a personal preference. I suppose out on the cove end near Fays it would be quieter with no road traffic noise, we like it up near the bigger clubhouse, close to the showers,rest rooms and family room with the TV DVD player on those rainy days. I don't think theres any 'bad' slips in the club. I will look for some pics.

Thanks for the responses and help. GYC sounds like a really good location but the guys at Irwin have also offered me "slip #31 at Irwin’ point" which also accepts dogs. The slip at Irwin is $1K cheaper, but my descision is less about cash than about location, atmosphere, and people.

Can anyone give me their thoughts about Irwin?

One of the negatives for some is the location.Some people don't like having to go through the channel on weekends.It can get backed up and take a little while to get through.

We keep our boat at Irwins (slip at the marina). The crew, who also service the point, are the best. Always helpful. The people I know that keep their boat at the point seem to like it. I don't know what it has for services (showers, etc.), but if your not overnighting, probably doesn't matter much. Hopefully, some of them will chime in.

Another point some Marinas have issue with is parking and guests. Some Marinas/Yacht Clubs limit the number of your own cars and guests allowed, and I understand because its a question of available space. At GYC most all parking is within a few feet of your slip and if you happen to have a large number of guests there is ample parking at the other end of the property. With the exception of the old gas dock area, you are allowed to have a gas grille right at your slip along with picnic table and accessories. Unfortunately, GYC does not have any on-site service tech. On the positive side it means you can have whoever you want service your boat. Most of the boats not being serviced by dealers use Ed at Signature Marine. That is an on-site rolling Marine Service Truck. But the choice is up to the boat owner. Theres a spacious grassy area where kids can play and the golfer can even practice a little. Theres restrooms, showers, inside family room with TV/DVD player and ice machine.

We have been @ GYC now for 6 years and we love it. We have moved around slips and no mater what side you are on everybody is great! We also have a dog and he comes with us every weekend. And like Aquadeziac said you can have your grill, picnic table and dock boxes next to your boat. We also have several people that have fire pits that we all sit around at night. We also have a great guy there that can make a dock box for you if you don't have one. If you should have any questions please feel free to contact me also.
