There is a barge with a backhoe on it near the beach on the Broadview cam! Almost New Year and they can still run the barges to the islands! I'll bet they had been expecting to be able to drive across by now!

At least the water temp is finally in the 30's. If we can only get 2-3 days where it stays below freezing, I'll bet it drops fast.

Still much warmer than it was this time last year, and we know what happened (or didn't) last winter. El nino?

There is a crew at our place on Mark still doing work, they are hoping to get another week in to finish up. I am going up for my final trip tomorrow or Friday.

The lake is 3 degrees warmer than this date last year, based upon the information on this web site.

There is still a lot of winter ahead, but the long term forecast is for normal or warmer than normal for the next 20 days. Forecasts can be wrong, let us hope they are.

Bottom line is....nobody can predict the weather more than a few weeks ahead of time.The Farmers Almanac,for example figures the averages over many years and then takes a guess.Sometimes they hit it and sometimes they don't.Al Gore told us that the Florida shoreline would dissappear due to melting iceburgs.The National Weather Service predicted at least 12 named hurricanes for 2006 with 5 of them reaching category 4 or more.
So , keep your chins up....we still might get buried in that beautiful white stuff.

The lake is 3 degrees warmer than this time in 2001, the winter that it never really froze over completely. With the 33% probability shown that it will be warmer than normal this winter, it doesn't look good for solid ice again. I'm mostly hoping for snow as I've got 2004 sleds with only 250 miles on them (none last year).
