This morning I took a series of photos of the destroyed Alton Bay Pavilion. I've created an album in PhotoPost named "Alton Bay Pavilion Fire" that contains those photos. Here's one of them, taken from Downing's Landing.

That is certainly a Horrible sight. Although I really don't spend much time in Alton, so the loss doesn't trouble me, I am sure for many people that there are many memories that this building brought back every time they saw it. It is sad to think for them that this reminder of the past is destroyed.

DRH, amazing photos, if they weren't of such devastation they would be worth framing.

Thank you for the photo -- very sad.

We drove by with the girlies today and it was a bit surreal with the fog and mist. ;-(

Does anybody know whether there are plans to rebuild?

That location is much too good to stay vacant, and not private enough for a McMansion. Whether or not the current developer rebuilds the condos, I think that we can all rest assured that something nice will be built there!

That last part about resting assure something nice will be built there. With todays State building bureaucracy regading permits and that stuff seems to be slowing down some of the big stuff such as the rebuilding of the pavilion. It being so close to the water and then the possibility of needing to replace the pier section and all the permits that may be require for that, UNLESS it is all grandfathered.
That all being said let's just hope something goes in and it has some resemblance of the old pavilion. The one most of us remember. :)

Pictures of the lake side is devastating. I went up this past weekend and it is very hard to believe. However bad the back looks, their is still some good to the road front side. This is such a shame.

On a positive side is the beach (public) I think it looks terrific. I'd like to offer some sand from our boathouse and side birth, Just take the sand and fill in where needed. Maybe then, I can get my boat back in the boathouse in late August.
