This cartoon was in the Sunday Citizen. It explains why all the dancing done by the Babes On Sleds has not been productive. Someone bribed the Snow Gods!

Ladies- we have the music from the birthday party so let's give it a try!!

Guys- help us out: rev up those snow blowers! Vroom . . . Vroom!!!!

Hope there is enough snow to get the snowmobiles out this year.

This guy has gone out every 2nd or 3rd day and started the snow blower to show the gods we need some of the white stuff to make it work. I also sit on my Rhino with the snow plow and say many prayers under the stars at night and all he does is rain on my parade. I have even left the bait bucket and a couple tilts on the pier for him to see we need ice also.

OK, QL, What do I have to do to become one? I live 1 1/2 hours away from ya'll, but spend summer days in a daze there :D so...... can I join even if I don't own a sled? :)

It's like buying a new snowblower or new skis or a new sled. This only angers the snow gods. It's like you're commanding, rather than begging, them to do something. The snow gods are a perverse bunch and it amuses them mightly to see mere mortals in angst. I don't know what to do now, dancing might not appease them. Hmmm, perhaps a human sacrifice ? Do "we" have anyone "we" can spare ? :look:

I will not get me snow blower ready for the season if that is any help.

And this is the thanks I get !? Geesh, this is the last time I get involved in these pagan-deity disputes. So Mee'n'Mac rhymes with "we" does it. Given that logic I think Eureka, at least the re part, rhymes pretty good (even better I think). Is this Eureka person available ? No ... well let's see what else rhymes with "we". Hmmm ... be, de, he, ke ... kee ... ah ha  .... upthesaukee rhymes with "we" ! That's exactly the problem. All you people who have revved up the snowblowers, bought the new skis and gotten the winter gear prepared have scared off the snow gods. Look what happened last winter when DRH and QL bought the new snowmobiles! One lousy weekend of use.

My snowblower is sitting in the back of the garage and I haven't refilled the 2 gallon gas can + mixed in the oil yet. Although, last year we got 18 inches of snow in Feb. and Alton got 4 inches. Maybe I should bring the snowblower up and stand it next to the camp at Sandy Point with an empty tank.

I'm sorry, I thought I was doing the right thing. I promise I will go and pull the spark plug on the snow blower so it can't start and my better half has made me promise not to go out after dark and pray to the Gods. Oh ya, I went and put the bait bucket away along with the tilts. I sure hope this all helps.

No worries. I've put off getting my snow blower going in hopes of buying another used one that just sold the other day. So based on my procrastination and the sale of the working one, we should be just days away from a nor'easter. :emb:

OK, sounds like we're back on track. I just don't know if it's enough. Do we have a subject matter expert available ? I'm still thinking human sacrifice (oh yeah, I now have a name. ;) ) but maybe, being Christmas and all, that's just a bit, well, harsh. Any thoughts on substituting a politician, one (? 2 ?) used car salesman and a few lawyers ? Or would that be considered too cheap by The Snow Gods. Mebbe it would work for the Cold Gods, I hear rumor they're a bit more flexible in their worldview. I'd call tech support for some help but we all know how useful that was last year. :(

I have a confession. I think this lack of snow so far is my fault. No, really all mine. What happened was the wife and I planned a big kitchen renovation in August. The work involved kept me from being on the water hardly at all in August, which angered the sun Gods. I was very late in winterizing my jet ski, which doesn't help. That is usually the first signal to the snow Gods. Also, my garage has been used as a staging area for all the new cabinets for the kitchen. Now that that is done, I am working on straightening things up. So I don't have the room to put my jet ski away in its winter home yet. On top of all that, my snowmobile is still sitting on the trailer with the cover on. I haven't even taken it into the garage yet to get it ready for snow. So, with all the above taken into consideration, you can plainly see it is all my fault. I intend to rectify the situation in the next week/10 days so hopefully that will help us out.

Sears called and told me my service contract was up on my 3 year old snowblower... and I renewed it. :(

Had I let it run out.... we all know it would have snowed like HE Double Hockey Sticks... and my snowblower wouldn't start. Costing me a couple hundred dollars to have it fixed.

My selfish decision has to be part of the problem.

There are many of us to blame. After last year we vowed not to register the sleds until we had sufficent snow to actually use them. We have sinned...forgive us oh Snow God for we are merely human! Happy Holidays to one and all.

Kona Chick,

The Union Leader had an article this week stating that there were 10 - 15,000 fewer snowmobiles registered this year. I guess everyone is waiting to see if they can use their machines before they shell out the registration $$'s.:)

Count me as one of the 10000-15000 non-registerees. First time I have ever waited for snow to register.

Put those Jet Skis back in the water, turn your outside faucets back on throw a boat or two back in the water, put the floats back out. If that doesn't work plan an outdoor wedding using the Mt Washington sailing for the reception.

I spoke to a friend in Denver yesterday afternoon he said the snow was horizontal and coming down hard and fast! Perhaps it will move east for the weekend. They seem to be snowed in in the mile high city.

I almost forgot, the days will now start to get longer being with tomorrow. HAPPY FIRST DAY OF WINTER!

At this rate the Alton Bay Bed Race may have to be cancelled again this year!

"Mee" was just saying the same thing. Could this all be a result of the WinniForumFlyers ? Might be, just like buying new skis*, a new snowblower or a new sled is nearly guaranteed to produce a green winter, might be that our racing crib has had a similar effect.

Then again there's another angle. Could it be that the ABCCC, worried that their run of wins is over, have put a word in with the "agency above" ? I don't know that this is the case but something sure seems fishy .....

Then again perhaps this all FLL's fault. After all I haven't heard he's pulled the Alumacraft out yet. Given the high taxes he's paid perhaps Meredith is heating the lake to give him a longer boating season.

*Remember that winter back in the early 80's w/o snow ? Bought new skis and rented a place on Cannon Mt that year. Sorry 'bout that.

The Waterville Valley ski area snow phone, (603) 236-4144 says they got 1-3" of snow last night and more snow is expected throughout the day. Waterville Valley is about 40 miles north and 700' higher elevation than Lake Winnipesaukee. Just came back in from walking around some cross country ski trails here in WV, and what we really got is 1/2 to 1" of heavy wet snow, and it's now light rain-drizzle-overcast-haze and 35 degrees.

The ground here has yet to freeze, and the grass on the golf course is or was mostly green. Now, it's mostly white with snow. but just one inch or less and how long will it last?. Most past years the ground here would be snow covered from about Nov 18 - April 5.

As I read the posts in this thread a thought occured to me....Maybe someone will know the answer: What is the record for late winter ice formation. And I don't mean a skim of ice, i mean ice thick enough to be out on. I wonder how far into the winter do we go before really wondering if the lake will ever freeze......

Usually, the big open areas of the lake don't freeze until January 5 - 10. To help insure that this will occur, my seasonal dock and boat are still in the water, so I'll have to run around like a nut or something on Jan 8 or so and pull everything out really quick before it all gets locked into the ice.

Your enthusiasm is contagious...a visitor to my house who is usually a spoilsport this time of year was actually caught on film (memory stick actually) looking to the heavens, apparently imploring the snow gods to let us get more than less than one inch, as was the forecast this morning.

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopost/data/15092/grinch-looking-up.jpg

Obviously, he was pleased by the result of his pleadings, and although we would maybe have liked to see a little more, he didn't seem to want to seem greedy. Perhaps he has turned over a new leaf, being tired of the reputation that has prevailed about him.

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopost/data/15092/grinch-after-snow.jpg

We ended up with about 2.5 inches of snow, by the way.
