Anyone interested in predicting when the Ice will be in on the big lake or even some of the smaller lakes? I have to admidt I miss the area and I am an avid viewer of the local Cams and must get my daily fix of the conditions up North. I am in Pennsylvania and the temps are just begining to get seasonal here. Anyway, I can't wait to see the upcoming changes. I hope everyone has a peaceful and quiet Thanksgiving. Be safe and enjoy what you have.

Its funny, my wife and I were just talking about last Thanksgiving when I fried a turkey in a snow storm, now this year its supposed to be 50 and sunny. Then again, I think I hit some ice yesterday during my turn in the Turkey Plunge! I do think we'll have a late ice in.

How many times have we not had an ice in for the entire season?

I believe it was the first time last year since records were kept.

Based on the weather so far, I am going to go with the "never" date. Last year was flat-out weird, with some downright frigid temps, yet not enough to make *everything* get solid. This fall seems milder than last. I'm thinking vast open sections of Lake throughout the winter.

Now, Old Man Winter and Mother Nature...prove me wrong.

I believe we will have enough ice and snow to be able to play with our winter time toy's. It may be a little late getting started, but when it does there will be no holding it back.

Grant:

I was going to go with the "never" date, but you got it first. My date will be 2/1/07.

While I don't disagree with the sentiment, as noted in other posts the overall water temperatures are amazingly consistent year to year. If the weather soon returns to a normal NE winter pattern, so will the ice...

There have been two years in my recent ice-in memory that the lake was not completely frozen... last year and in 2001-2002 winter (I think that was the year... I bought a snowmobile that fall and could not use it)

No matter how solid the lake freezes part of the broads will never freeze because I have the broads in a bottle(won at forum fest III)on top of my TV
and I didn't have to buy it on e-bay
This was a great idea RG I love my Broads In A Bottle.

Sunset Bob,

How nice it is to see your prize proudly displayed next to your other prized possessions. I too bet that your sample of the broads will never freeze, as long as the TV it sits on is used occasionally.

BTW, is that a CrisCraft or Penn Yan?

I have pictures of my sisters and I at the lake one Thanksgiving and there was snow on the ground and a thin sheet of ice on the lake. My dad and I took the 6hp row boat out and played "ice breaker". I think I was like 7 or 8. I also remember one fising derby where we were drilling through 2 feet of ice. I don't need 2 feet, but geez last year was ridiculous. I am never uneasy about being on ice, but last year I was.

We are so glad you like your ForumFest III raffle prize Sunset Bob! I cannot take credit for the idea though. It was Lake Winnipesaukee Water for Sale (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3796&highlight=ebay) on E-bay that made me think it might make a good raffle item for the fest. I like that you are displaying the certificate of authenticity beside it - nice touch.
(R-Guy and I should have painted the gold ring around the top of the bottle like we planned, but we ran out of time for that. It seems the epoxy and the ones I used silicone sealant on have turned a cloudy, whitish color. Oh, well. Live and learn.)
There are three bottles here in our home. They supply me endless smiles and make my longing for the lake easier to bear. I just love them. When I am doing dishes, days on The Broads are nice to remember. Relaxing in the living room is now even better. What a way to end the day, dreaming of the place I love best.

This photo is from The Lakes Region of New Hampshire Volume II by Bruce D. Heald, Ph.D. The caption under it states:
Race car No. 40 , called the Meredith Ford , on Meredith Bay, Thanksgiving Day, 1951. Pictured are Tony Amabile (the driver) and his two children, Thomas (left) and Anthonette . According to the AP News, this vehicle was electronically timed at 90 mph, its top speed.

Could there really have been enough ice to hold several autos on Thanksgiving Day?

It had to be colder back then. I think most of us have heard the stories from our parents about walking to school in the snow and it was up hill both ways in June.:rolleye2:

Where is winter? It is almost Christmas and the grass is still green in my yard.

ICE IN? Only in our drinks I fear. Come on babes DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!

NO WAY. I am a firm believer in Global Warming but that's rediculous. Christmas day MAYBE.
