We are the proud owners of the 1931 Old Town 25 ft. War Canoe, purchased June 30 1931, by W.H. Bentley for Camp Winnemont. The canoe has held up nicely and is presently undergoing restoration. We are interested in stories, photos, news articles, and all other informaton on Camp Winnemont, the canoe, & Mr. Bentley. It is the large green canoe that held 6-12 campers. We intend to use the canoe when completed as a team building tool and a classic example of the vintage wood canvas canoe era, to be displayed throughout the Northeast. This forum provides a great resource of the area, great site.
Thank you,
Dave & Peggy Davidson

What a great surprise - I am the grandson of W. H. Bentley. I presently live in Wolfeboro, retired, enjoying traveling and "keeping busy". I would write a lot more, but my wife are are literally on the way out the door to visit family in Pennsylvania. We will be gone 5+ weeks, but, when I get back I'll be in touch.

Hi,
I just signed onto this forum after reading the post about Camp
Winnemont. The successor to Camp Winnemont is Wabanaki Campground.
I have spent my summers there for the past forty years. The camp cabins described above are still standing, there are now six of them. I remember the
old red and green canvas conoes, wooden sailboats, and wooden rowboats that were leftover from Winnemont I presume. In the earlier years, we used the old tent platforms for decks beside our travel trailers. The big lodge, the dining hall (now apartments), the arts and crafts building, and three of the cabins in the woods are still in use.
The camp sits on the shore of Ossipee Lake providing great mountain
views, awesome sunsets, and what seems like an ever present breeze. Like
the Lakes Region as a whole, its a great spot to create memories.
