Hi Guys! This may be a long shot but figured it was worth a try? This is the Lake Winnepesaukee Forum so not sure if talking about the town of Ossipee is appropriate? In any case I am thinking of buying a property in Ossipee Village that was a former Bed & Breakfast. It used to be called the Little House Bed & Breakfast. It sits on Browns Ridge Road and is currently in a state of disrepair. It hasn't operated as a B&B in some time and I cannot find any information about it online. I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about it? Any information provided would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!! :D

Are you thinking about reopening it as a B&B? What kind of info are you looking for?

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I believe the place has been on the market for some time. Big price reductions on the place in recent months have made it more attractive I suppose. It needs some work but one can really see it has potential. If I were to purchase it I would like to re-open it as a B&B someday. That is always what I have wanted to do. Not sure it is in the best place to attract a lot of clientelle though? Inside it has a lot of the original features. Above the garage all of the old road signs and such are present. I was just trying to figure out how long ago it was a Bed and Breakfast. The signs look in really good shape so I am imagining not too long ago? I will have to check with the town hall in Ossipee and see what I come up with! Thanks again everyone! :D

AG, if you don't get definitive info (or at least info to your satisfaction) from folks at the Town Hall, you could also check with the State and find out more. I'd suggest asking them when the prior owners stopped reporting Meals & Room Tax, how long it was open (and what years, of course......) and also what their reported revenue was. It may have been open, for instance, when Mt. Whittier was still a going concern so attracted skiers during the winter, etc. Good luck, and keep us updated!!!!!

Thanks WB! Interesting you brought up Mt. Whittier. I hadn't known about that old ski area out in Ossipee. Obviously the Little House B&B would have been positioned nicely to take in guests frequenting that ski resort. I went out on a very good Lost ski area site (Nelsap.org) and looked it up. Mt. Whittier went out of business in 1985, some time ago. This could have been the time the B&B business ceased as well. By no means do the signs look that new so mid to late 80's is a good guess. I will let you know how the purchase of the property goes. Thanks again! :D

Nelsap is an awesome site, has brought back a lot of memories for me when I go to that site!
Mt. Whittier used to offer skiing, yes, but also was (I believe) one of the first ski areas in the area to try and capitalize on summer tourism by offering gondola rides to the summit. People could disembark on the summit, picnic and hike up there, and on occasion the snack bar at the summit would be open. For many years after Mr. Whittier closed, there was still a gondola suspended over Route 16, "frozen in place" as an historic site, I guess, lol. I passed by the old base lodge (on the opposite side of Route 16 from where the ski area actually was) on August 23 and was surprised to see that there are still, to this day, an old gondola or two outside of the lodge building!
If you get a chance, take a look! And glad I could help with my earlier suggestion!
