More Damage Noted Today & More!

I noticed that Snake Eyes was down and someone suggested it may be related to a recent storm. Well, we went under the Long Island Bridge today and saw a large tree that had fallen on a home on the mainland. We earlier had retrieved a 5' maple tree branch with full grown leaves attached, which we put on our friends brush pile on Cow Is.

Later off the eastern end of Rattlesnake we came across a dead deer floating and it appeared to have been in the water a while. We called for the MP & Fish & Game. Someone else had called it in an hour before us but had left the area. We waited as this was a real hazard even with very little traffic today. When the MP & F&G arrived they went to the first reported location about a half mile south of us. There were several thunderstorms passing through Tuesday. My computer spent more time unplugged than plugged-in!

The second storm was a doozy: One of those monster blue/yellow trampolenes got flipped upwind and dragged its mooring and chain...up-side down! It dragged the shoreline for about a mile downwind. Never seen that before. (Unsecured rafts going by—yes, inverted—no.)

The wind was strong enough to cause my sailboat's aluminum mast to howl like never before—whistle occasionally, maybe, but not howl. :eek:

Waves never had a chance to build, as the wind just blew the tops off them—in streams! Not as bad as that 60+MPH storm last June when you couldn't see the surface for the spray...but bad-enough. Last year's storm caused the woods to roar like a train, reminding me of how a tornado is described.

With the ground being so soggy, and the old forest newly cleared upwind for a building lot, I noticed yesterday that two of my tallest and straightest white pine trees have been "tilted" and now pose a menace to the cottage.

Bummer. :(

Can you tell me what direction these strong winds were out of? I wouod help me to know if I need to rush up and check the place out for damage.

Are you located on the lake? What was the strength of these winds?

Here in West Alton, our winds were from the usual Northwest during the storms. During the first go-round, we had a gust of 47 mph. During the second storm, the winds peaked at 43 mph but the winds went on for a longer period of time. There was quite a bit of lightening as well, with some "whiz-bangers".:eek: Not fun!

Thanks, Quilt Lady. Actually, winds coming from the northwesterly direction are normally fine for me. From the due North or northeasterly are what is bad. Since you gave me the more northwesterly direction... I will wait until tomorrow to head up. Thanks for the info.
