Dock Decks Rules

I'm Curious as to the rules regarding dock deck replacement. Can you repair the deck of the dock without permits? :confused: I'm not talking about the pilings etc that touch the water. It has been awhile since I needed to know this and think the rules have changed.

I'm in the same boat...need to replace a 30'x8' deck which is directly on the shore ,but not touching water.My understanding was that projects under $1,500 in cost did not require a permit as long as no other laws applied.Anyone know?

You can resurface a dock without a permit from the state provide there is no change in the size, location or configuration of the structure and no work is done in the water. The same is true for decks and stairs in the bank provided the repairs don't require and digging. I would strongly recommend taking a few photos of whatever it is you're fixing before you get started though. It's amazing how long a structure can exist without anyone noticing, but at soon as the new lumber appears it's like a beacon.

That is what I was told but years ago I got into inspection problems because no photos were taken.

Definitely take fotos. Best proof you can have if anyone comes questioning.
