Still Worried About The Lake Level?

Talk about feast or famine.......Winnisquam is up 8 to 10 inches and overflowing in some low lying areas. The little stream next to my house is now a raging rapids....yikes!

Time to call another meeting and beat the dam guys up for the lake being to high, lake at season average now, more rain on the way. Kind of like the Global Warming thing, wait a little while and it will change. BTW, I was kidding about beating up the dam guys, I think they do a great job.

The brunt of the rainfall has been along a line from Lawrence to Manchester to Lebanon. At this time
Winnipesaukee up 7"
Sunapee up 12"
Squam up 13"
Newfound up 23"
Merrimack river in Manchester up six feet

UPDATE - MONDAY, 15-MAy-06 - The highest rainfall was about 30 miles southwest of Winnipesaukee. Between Concord and Sunapee, they received more than twice the rain that we have at Winnipesaukee. Here are some updated figures:
Winnipesaukee up 12:
Sunapee up 18"
Squam up 15" (They've opened up their dam so it's crested there)
Newfound up 35"
Merrimack River in Concord up 9 feet (one foot over flood stage)
Merrimack River in Manchester up 15 feet(9 feet over flood stage)

And ... It's still raining

After watching the lake rise over 5 inches and the rocks all disappear I figured I could stop worrying about the low water levels. Those dam operators are geniuses!
I then drove down 28 to Hookset. There were several places where the water was over the road. In Hookset, 28 bypass and route 3 were closed. Thankfully the GPS found a way on to 93.. (101 in Bedford also closed)
Even the interstates were dangerous.. Please everyone.... be careful out there. Now home in Mass watching our rivers peaking

Hellooooooooo rain, and goodbye and good riddance to all that miserable, irritating, dry yellow dusty stuff that has been floating around in the air for the last couple of weeks. Good bye and good riddance to the pollen, and please don't return anytime soon. Here's to a great big, mile long plume of yellow pollen suspended in the water as you cruise along the east side of Rattlesnake Island with its' steep embankment and many trees. In the lake, and not in the air, is where pollen belongs.

After this year's pollen, the June black flies should be about as easy as drinking a beer. ....salud!

Mother Nature , historically , seems to equal herself out sooner or later. Case in point , last falls excess of rain that was let go down stream in order to maintain winter level. Now it's too dry. Relax , before you know it you will be up to your gills in water again.;)
It will probably wait till prime tourist season and rain like last fall:rolleye2:

Lots of floating debris in the lake---be careful. Went to check the boat this morning and spent 20 minutes pulling lawn chairs and even 1/2 of someone's dock to shore. Could this high water lead to another "no wake" restriction for the entire lake? Regardless use extreme caution if you're boating.

I have reviewed the NH Des web site and the Lake is above full lake. Also the Bizer web site has an interesting water level graph. We may be seeing no wake on the lake for Memorial Day

I think the lake will need to come up another foot before that's likely -- could happen though. Will be interesting to see when and at what level the lake crests. You can be assured that the lake will be used as a giant retention pond to hold back more flooding downstream and then will be released after the weather improves and the flooding abates -- meaning that I would expect the lake to maintain whatever ultimate level it reaches for a couple weeks anyway.

My parents own a house on Echo Point Road in Alton. We used to get water in the kitchen every time it rained, but they put up a retaining wall. I am thinking that the wall may not have been able to keep all the rain out and I am wondering if anyone has been down that way and has noticed the rain running from the hillside down towards the lake.

I don't really think anyone has been down there, but I thought I would put it out there nonetheless.

I have a place off Sawmill Brook Rd (which is off Echo Pt Rd). I came down Echo Point Rd around 3:00 o'clock on Sunday. At that time I didn't see any major problems along Echo Point Rd. It was raining hard and the lake was up but there were no washouts. Going down Rt 28 in Alton there was a big washout. There was heavey equipment moving all the sand and debris in the road and it was only open to one lane at a time. This was maybe 5 miles south of the lake.
Which place is your parents?

Thanks for the info. You can't miss our place. It is the one with the garage that sticks out into the road, the fourth house on the left. It is the second one that is white with green trim.

I didn't really think there would be a problem there, but I thought I could ask.

I just came back from Mark, the water was 4"+ over the top of my dock. Luckily my dock box which I had not bolted in down was floating in place. The rain was coming down pretty heavy but the sky showed signs of breaking. Glendale docks were barely out of the water.

I did not see too much debris. Lots of boats out fishing, none were obeying the recomended NW.

I checked out your place over the weekend. Everything looked fine. I didn't see any damage from just walking along the road. I looked down the embankment both in front and behind the garage and didn't see any problem. You really have a unique set-up there.
The water level is way up and many docks are under water. There's a lot of debris floating around. I was going to put my boat in over the weekend but decided against it since the end of my dock was floating. Maybe next weekend if the level goes down.
