Here's something for the writers of the forum to sink their teeth into. Its a fairly new travel wiki with a section for NH's Lakes Region. Check out http://wikitravel.org/en/Lakes_Region_%28New_Hampshire%29 - there is not much information there yet, but I'm sure the forum members can do it justice and put the lakes region "on the map".
For those unfamiliar with a Wiki... it is like an encyclopedia where internet visitors get to write the text. Anyone can come in and edit the text that is already written, so (in theory) the quality and accuracy of the content gets better over time.
Call me selfish, but I think enough people visit the area now. Sometimes when you find something great, it's best to keep it quiet. My opinion....

Here's something for the writers of the forum to sink their teeth into. Instead of contributing to a travel service wiki please use ours instead.
The WinniWiki (http://www.winniwiki.com) used the same software as the WikiPedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) and works the same way. It is a user created and maintained Web site. You can create articles on just about anything. You can also edit or correct anything. To see how it works browse the WikiPedia.
There are very few rules for the Wiki and it is self policing. Of course I'd prefer that information is related to the Lakes Region but it is up to users to enforce that.
The only catch is that you'll have to figure out how to use it yourself. I can't provide support although you are welcome to open threads on the Support Forum for help from others. The MediaWiki Handbook (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents) covers everything and there is endless wiki help on the Web.
This is kind of an experiment and I'm not sure where it will go or if it will be used at all (the creators of WikiPedia probably had the same thoughts). I think it could be a great resource if it becomes a user created encyclopedia of the Lakes Region.:coolsm:
Try it out: http://WinniWiki.com

The more global travel Wiki should be updated to point to the local one, once it is active. Sounds like there is a need for Wiki synchronization software.

AGREED!!
Every year it gets more crowded around here, and for me that makes it a less enjoyable place to live. :(

Nonsense. Look around :look: .
There are hundreds of thousands of acres yet to be developed here!
BTW: This season marks my family's 50th year -- in the exact same lakefront spot!

Reminds me of the song by the Eagles from Hotel California called The Last Resort, the last verse:
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye.
Oh well.
