The bridge that crosses over Winnisquam is having some major work done. The east bound lane (towards Laconia) and the adjacent breakdown lane have been stripped down to the girders. Both directions of traffic are squeezed over the remaining lanes. Today the traffic wasn't too bad but if it's still like this on Memorial Day, it's going to be a mess. Plus the lanes are pretty narrow so take care if you have a wide boat on a trailer.

This is the main Rt3/11 bridge near Winnisquam Marine. I think this is called the Mosquito bridge. It may be better to "seek alternate routes"

jrc - I couldn't agree more with your suggestion to "find an alternate route"! The lanes are extremely narrow, and my last trip over the bridge nearly resulted in the driver's side being peeled away by a nutcase driving a honda accord and going 50mph in the opposite direction. Heart in my throat!!!

As if that's not enough, the surface of Route 3 from there to Tilton is atrocious! The potholes and patches make for treacherous travel, and will result in the need for many repair bills and alignments. :rolleye2:

If I owned a business on that stretch of road, you can bet your bottom dollar I'd be on the phone and writing letters to the State. I sure hope some sort of repairs are scheduled for that road - it's sorely needed.

I'll bet it can only get worse during the construction as more people head to the lake. :( You can bet I'll find another way to travel. Photo taken 3/26/06

I was up in Meredith and Gilford Friday and I came back home across the bridge! The traffic wasn't too bad but once tourists start coming up it's not going to be fun! BTW, The frost heaves are still heavin!

Until Mosquito Bridge is finished I'll probably be getting off 93 in Concord at 393 so that I can take 106 past Loudon (except for Motorcycle and NASCAR weeks) and jump onto Route 3/11 and take it to Laconia Airport.

I am planning to spend several days at the Lake during Motorcycle week so please tell me that the Mosquito Bridge will be finished by then!!!!

The construction will be done before Motorcycle week....and the check is in the mail...that guy from the government is actually here to help you...we better stop there with the great lies of the world.

Here's some info from state website re: Mosquito bridge construction.

Lane restriction scheduled through June 30th...completion date of May 2007. See the complete info here:

went by yesterday going toward Tilton and it was a mess and took an extra 30 minutes to go the ~1 mile of construction. Wouldn't go that way as this was Saturday morning in May and a lot of rain so with more traffic or Sunday night i could see it taking and hour. Hopefully it will all be done in a month

It just gets worse and worse! :(

There is now a length of roadway where the pavement has been stripped. With all the rain it has turned into the worst driving hazard I've ever encountered. Hopefully they'll be able to get some graders out there before rush-hour Monday morning, or there'll be a nightmare commute for those who must travel that direction!

No worries Pepper, they waited till rush hour Monday to grade it. I know, I got a front row seat to the bumpiest 100 yards of my life while dodging the graders! :emb: :emb:

For those of you out of towners looking for a way around, take I-93 to exit 20, then follow Rt140 to Belmont, then take Rt 106 to the Rt. 3/11 bypass. This is the way I go home from work most days and the nice thing is big wide lanes! Any accidents don't tend to shut the road down like they do on Rt3.

Not yet, but they've repaved 1/2 of it (north bound side) and its a lot smoother then it was at my last post.
