What happened to the photo ( 1-10 ) rating system?..... Just curious.

I deactivated the ratings because they were never used properly. The only rating ever used was "10". There certainly are some great pictures on PhotoPost but if you give every picture a 10 it makes the ratings meaningless.

Here is part of a message I posted last year:
I also have...concerns about the ratings in PhotoPost. Almost all ratings are 10s! With a scale of 1 to 10 available I would think that good pictures should get a 6 or a 7, an excellent one a 8 or a 9, and a 10 should be reserved for only the most amazing, astounding shots. If I could get everyone to use the whole range of numbers I would reactivate that feature but I don't think that is possible.

I do understand that the 10 often represents a big thumbs up or a standing ovation (as another forum regular pointed out) but that is not the intended purpose of a ratings system. The ratings should tell viewers if others thought the picture was just OK, good, excellent or amazing. After several years of seeing only 10s I finally gave up on that concept.

You can still praise a picture by posting a comment. That is probably better anyway since you can include the reason why you think it's a great picture.
