My Dad (now 80) grew up on the lake, as did his Mom and her parents before her. Fortunately for me (the Great Grandchildren, and our kids, the Great Great Grandchildren) we are still on "The Lake"!

My Great Grandfather's boat was at the Weirs when the fire destroyed the Mount Washington I. His boat was also lost in that fire!

I remember as a child looking out from Dockham Shore toward the Witches and watching water skiiers! You will not see that today.

Times change.

My family has been on the lake for over a century and we have, and will continue, to enjoy every, and all, aspect of the lake for generations to come!
APS wrote in "The Final Statement" of HB162:
As the third generation of my family to live on Winnipesaukee, I wish I could enjoy the lake as my predecessors had. (We never said, "use" the lake).

I wish that all those McMansions had never happened, but they did. I wish that I could go from Rocky Cove and water ski out toward Welch Island, but I can't.

What we can do is hold our heritage near and dear and pass it along to the generation coming behind us.

I also remember when Timber Island (the entire island) was for sale for $1,000,000! Want to guess what it's worth today?

Protect the future of the lake. My personal opinion is that the shoreline is over developed! Not something that should come as a surprise.

I think the way to protect what's left of the lake is to do it via zoning. Unfortunately most of us can't vote in NH so we have to leave it to you, the residents, to make sure the heritage is there to pass along.

Ah the good old days, when I could jump off my neighbors dock without fear of lawsuit, but couldn't walk down the street for fear of my other neighbor running me over with her car because she was drunk. Funny how some things change for the better, and some for the worse.

My kids are the 4rth generation on this great lake. Gone are the days where you knew the whole neighborhood. Each neighbor would have an after dinner party on their sun deck or porch. The kids will play together on the lake.
Gone are the sunrise and sunset waterskiing. The rafting at various parts of the lake. The water volleyball competitions at Braun Bay.
Gone is Irwin's Winnipesaukee Gardens. Where my parent use to spend their evenings. I use to see many good bands there.
Gone is the waterski competitions. The 60 mile marathons around Rattlesnake Island.
I could go on and on. I think I was fortunate to see the best years on the lake. :D

Yah, we used to waterski most of the day and there was a waiting line to do shallow water starts off of the beach. That made it easier to teach people and you did not have to load the boat down. Just the driver and shot gun rider (observer). What happend to water skiers? :(

But as the song says "These are the good old days"
