I recently heard that Garwoods in downtown Wolfeboro was closed and was coming under new management.

Location is very good. Does anyone know the story?

Great place. I hope new owners don't change the name, and keep the Bloody Mary with shrimp.

I believe the people who run Marker 21 will be running Garwoods. I heard they will keep the same favorites and add some.

A great location with an underperforming product. A change is probably a good thing.

I agree. I was disappointed the menu was so limited. It was fine for a hamburger.

The Garwoods family also owns Dockside--excellent lobster rolls in an unmatched setting. I hope there's no change there.

Also, I really appreciate the Marker 21 team and their investment in the area. But that much concentration of ownership--Marker 21, Wicked Loon, the bowl place, Garwoods--is probably more than we'd like

I heard they will be running Dockside too. I agree, I wonder that all the restaurants in town are run by such a small group now.....

As someone above mentioned, Garwoods is an excellent location with a mediocre product whereas I think Marker 21 is doing a great overall job.

I'm also wondering what the summer might be look in terms of spending as a lot of my friends are already talking about their budgets changing in reaction to what's happening with the tariffs, stock market, etc.

Let's see how it goes!

I believe Garwood's only leased the Dockside. My understanding is the Town owns the actual property and leases the restaurant. It will remain to be seen if Garwood's will continue restaurant and ice cream property.

We ate at Garwoods exactly twice and that was about ten years ago. We found them to be pretentious and their prices were high for the decidedly underwhelming food and service.

One of the great things about the Lakes Region is that driving a bit for a good meal takes you through some BEAUTIFUL countryside. :)

They just had a "March madness promotion offering 25% discount on their gift cards, I bought $600 worth, they must be seeing sales slowing down.

You are right, the town does own Dockside. My understanding is the family that owns Garwoods will still own it, they have owned it for years and before Garwoods, always leased it out. The new people will run both restaurants is my understanding. I am guessing that the lease with the town has not run out so they are sub leasing but I don't know that.

Agree hope the menu gets expanded. Was very limited. Surprised to see so many thumbs up on Marker 21. I find there offerings mediocre at best.

Garwoods is a business in a building. The family that owned the business also owned the building, but they were two separate entities. The dockside building is owned by the Town, and leased to whomever "gets the lease". Coincidently, the same family that owns Garwoods also holds the lease on the dockside building. The lease is for a certain length of time, with renewal options. With the same family operating both locations, it looked a little confusing, but it really wasn't.
I haven't heard anything about the Marker 21 people taking over Dockside.

The difference with the Common Man is market concentration--Common Man has a small % of the restaurants in their very broad service area. The Marker 21 guys are going to have a much larger % of the restaurants in downtown Wolfeboro.

Good point about spending this Summer--looks like a lot of downward pressure

I thought Common may operated 4-5 restautants in Meredith. And 100^ of the very busy Hooksett rest areas.

One person owns a lot of the Wolfeboro buildings that restaurants are housed in but leases them out. Garwoods is not one of them and Dockside is of course not one of them.

Ah, I underestimated them. Still not the % of Marker 21 in Wolfeboro, but a lot. Thanks

Definitely not as saturated as Wolfeboro on the whole, but certainly a significant portion of the available options.

In either case, I like (some) of the CR restaurants and, clearly, others do, too!

You don't mean Marker 21, you mean the person that owns the building that Marker 21 is in, and a lot of the other restaurant buildings in town. I am trying to think, but I don't think the owner of the buildings actually runs any of the restaurants.

I mean the people who own the restaurants. As I understand it, one group owns Marker 21, The Wicked Loon, and the bowl place. (please correct me if I'm wrong) I gather from this thread that the same group will control Garwoods and maybe Dockside.

No, one person owns the building that houses those three restaurants, and he runs the two downstairs, but the Marker 21 upstairs is run by another person and that person will be running Garwoods.

This is correct.

Also, the same person owns and “operates” the Downtown Grill next door. He also owns Bayberry Juice Barn. I was told that he recently purchased Buckeys up in Moultonboro, as well.

The building ownership and the individuals who "run" the restaurants are not important, at least to me within the context of this thread. That one person or group is controlling all these restaurants in a small area is not good for competition/diners--and apparently it's worse than I thought, and growing.

This is not to criticize the restaurant owner, I generally like what he's done so far, just to make an observation.

No, he's done very well for himself, I would never criticize him but I agree with you. He owns other property in town as well as other places.
