Love the tips at Hannaford’s! I usually but their teriyaki ones and they are very flavorful and tender and Half the price of the Wineing Butcher!

In Florida, even at the BJ's they are called "flap meat". And they are not very good.

We don't have them down here in NJ either. I used to buy extra packages at Market Basket to freeze and bring back to NJ for the offseason.

It is definitely a New England thing. Steak tips are made from a cheap cut of meat. Yankees never want to waste anything, so they figured out a way to sell it. I remember that they had them at the Hilltop Steakhouse in Saugus, Massachusetts. I’m not really a meat eater anymore, and I thought that they were an old-time thing, but I guess they’re still being enjoyed all around the lakes region.

OK, steaks tips are made from less expensive meat. But I disagree with the idea noted a couple of times above that they are inferior. If we put steak on a price spectrum, we've got tips at one end and filet mignon at the other, with meat becoming progressively more tender, and also more mild tasting, as we move up in $. So for those who like a chewier texture and stronger flavor, tips are great. (Marinade is required, and I'd steer clear of BJ's)

Of course, you cannot compare the quality of a steak tip to a filet but compared to most other cuts I typically prefer a decent steak tip.
Throw them in a ziplock bag with some olive oil to coat them then some Montreal seasoning. I put them in the Blackstone griddle (coated with Bacon Up of course!) and they come out great. Doesn't matter if they are Hannaford's, Walmart or BJ's.
My go to cut though is Teres Major. It is a lean, tender cut that is like a large tip. A friend is a restaurant owner and can order it for me by the 20 lb case at prices comparable or cheaper to grocery store tips.

Omaha Steaks sells Filet Mignon Tips and Sirloin Tips. Serving 8 is $39.99 and 23.49 respectively (when purchased with any other item.) Buckley's Fine Steaks in Merrimack serves Tenderloin tips as an appetizer. Summary: I don't necessarily see steak tips as being an interior cut.

Another vote for Hannafords steak tips.
I agree they are good!
The Hannaford's marinated steak tips at the meat counter are the same tips that come pre portioned and marinated in a refrigerated case in the meat department. The people working the meat counter just open the packages and dump them into tubs and raise the price per pound.
Savings tip: Buy the marinated pre measured and packaged tips for less!

The Grill Master tips (they have a few different offerings) from The Wining Butcher are close to the best we have had. Sadly as called out, the price is sort of crazy. I remember when they first opened, we were talking about $10 to $12 per pound. Most likely double that now, however they do/may have some off-season specials.

This may be an unpopular take but I find the WB tips to be somewhat mushy- they use a vacuum tumbler which pulls the meat "apart" and breaks the connective tissue. So the flavor is great as long as you like a softer tip!

You’re not wrong. Flavor wise they are the best. A bit tender, but I enjoy them that way. Many are just smaller cuts of steak. Perfer the softer cuts

This is why I also dislike them...The consistency of the meat is horrible because of the over tumbling. It's like biting into a sofa cushion!

I believe the Grill Master are Chubby's Grill Master marinade. We buy it by the gallon and use it on tips we get on sale, marinate and freeze. Even a year later, they are so tender and flavorful. Buying the tips on sale and marinating ourselves, we pay about $10/lb. I believe Wining Butcher sells the small bottles of marinade (used to anyhow), but we get the big bottles from Brothers Butcher in Nashua.

The best Steak Tips I've ever had outside of my own, came from Krista's in Cornish, ME. Sorry not anywhere near what you asked, but if you ever find yourself on a random Sunday drive down Route 25, if you end up in Maine, make sure to stop there. They don't always have Steak Tips it's not a regular menu item, if and when they do have them it's under their "Special Hunk of Meet" which changes frequently. Their Prime Rib is phenomenal though.

I've never been there or heard of it. I was trying to stay somewhat close to the lake but since you mentioned Massachusetts, if you ever find yourself down in the Peabody, Salem area, make sure to stop by a place called Champions in Peabody, their steak tips are fantastic!

I have a family member who buys large quantities of steak tips at Tuckaway. He freezes them and put them on airplanes, with ice packs, in checked luggage for winter enjoyment in Florida. So far so good. It would get expensive if the flight was delayed and the meat thawed and went bad!

They ship anywhere in the country for a very reasonable cost. Zero upcharge on any of their items other than shipping cost. It’s $9.99 to ship anything in the state of NH. We order stuff and have shipped quite often from there.

Whenever we go to the BVI we pack a frozen meat box. We bring our steak tips, sausage patties and bacon as the island we prefer is very small and doesn’t have much for store options, and the selection on Tortola that can be ordered and brought over on the ferry isn’t great.
I’ll box it up early in the am before we leave and by the time we arrive in the afternoon it’s still frozen solid. A few large ice packs is plenty.
Headed back down in a month!

Ok, my son and I hit up Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse tonight and had the following steaks*: flank, sirloin, prime rib, filet, house steak tips, and maple steak tips, and we both agreed that the maple steak tips were the best of all.
Places that don't have marinated tips are totally missing out!

At the risk of going somewhat off-topic, I have had the opportunity to go to Brazil and Argentina a number of times for work, and the meat in those countries is by far the best I have ever had. Don't know what they use for seasonings, but it is fantastic.

Tried Dom’s teriyaki tips today… they were OK…tender,…but lacked the teriyaki flavor I was looking for. At $23.00 a pound I expected better…. Ill stick with Hannaford’s Island Teriyaki tips for $9.99 a pound which I feel are much better.
Also tried some of Dom’s hot Italian sausage and was disappointed. They were so salty they were almost inedible….
Oh well…

I have travelled through Brazil and agree. The churrascarias' with waiters carrying meat on swords, cut to your liking at your table, were entertaining as well as delicious. The best one I remember was in Florianopolis.

We had a similar finding. Ok but not great. We cooked up 2 packs (regular and red sox) of tips for steak and eggs yesterday. First off, 3 of us polished off 3 lbs quickly, my point being that I don't really think their 1.5lb packs are truly that. I could have certainly had more. We have 2 more packs left which we are cooking for dinner tonight and I will probably have to pick up something else to feed 4 of us.
They were tender and sweet, but I would not call them great by any means. Decent for a breakfast, but I don't think I will order them again. For the money I would rather go Tuckaway, Johnsons or Wining Butcher (Hannafords as well).

If you ever find yourself on the Rte 16 side of things, stop by Lovell Lake Market... excellent tips at a reasonable (for steak tips!) price.
Of course you'd be remiss if you did stop before or after for a snack/cold one at the PPP.
