It was so cold on the summit of Mt. Washington, that the observers decided to have a little fun with a cup of boiling hot water, the result was a "flash freeze" that they photographed. Check out the story and pics here: http://www.mountwashington.org/cam/deck/index.php

I was stationed at Eielson AFB from 1967 to 1972, and we used to impress our new troops on just how cold 40 below was by doing the same thing, off our control tower catwalk! Take one coffee pot full of hot water, add temps around 40 below zero, toss the water off the catwalk (8 stories up) and not a bit of the water / ice would hit the ground. It simply turned into "ice fog", freezing like a mist. Cool then, cool now (no pun intended, oh well, maybe just a little pun).
Neat link...thanks for the memory and the sharing.

Did you try it? What happened? (I'm too lazy to try it, lol, waiting for someone else's experimental results!) :)
