Lots of threads on here was well as the islander facebook groups.

We use Hanover Insurance for ours, Portsmouth Atlantic is our broker. It works as a package deal with your primary home, they want the full portfolio not just the island.

Openly is offering island insurance, try Portsmouth Atlantic or Morin in Alton. Others use Lloyds of London.

Allstate recently dumped a lot of their island policies leaving many to scramble for coverage.

We use State Farm for our Barndoor Island house.

I have a house on Little Bear that is insured by Liberty Mutual. I had a tree demolish my deck last spring and the whole process of dealing with LM was a pleasure from the initial contact, thru initial adjuster review, to change orders, to final payment. I was expecting a sh__ show but it was incredibly easy & unexpectedly stress free (from an insurance point of view.)

Island insurance has been getting more difficult every year. We are on our third or fourth insurer over the last 10 years. State Farm seems to be the recent “go to” with decent rates after a couple of the other island insurers dropped island properties. Even the agencies that are accustomed to island properties are having hard times finding coverage.

We have State Farm for our island home. However we also have our mainland home, our vehicles and umbrella policies with them. I am not positive but do believe you will have a hard time just getting island home insurance without having your other policies with them as well…

Good luck!

We use Rene Leclerc out of Hooksett. Been with them for years and very pleased with their service….

We used Shannon Greenwood out of Tilton. https://shannon-greenwood.com/

Our island property is the only thing we have through State Farm, so no bundling seems to be required.

If your boat is at the dock or on the trailer, and somebody steals your tool box, is it covered under your home insurance? Boat? Camp? "Who ya gonna call?" Extending liability coverage for a second location or a small boat from your primary home policy is relatively cheap, better than having separate policies. At least, one agent should know all the risks and set up coverage accordingly even if you buy from others. I sold for a direct writer for 25 years and covered second homes in MA, FL, ME, AZ, etc. and cars for college students all over the place since they were still part of the household. I know laws have changed since I retired years ago, but the principle of coordinating coverage is the same. And some companies don't want or are not underwriting certain risks like your 75 mph GFBL or a permanently sited mobile home.
