Now a daily "warning" from Photobucket:

Do you want to keep your account?

Your free account has been deactivated and may be at risk of deletion. If you would like to keep your account and any photos you may have uploaded, please login and upgrade today.

Years ago, our Wolfeboro forum directed us to Photobucket to host our photos. Dutifully, they received a pile of my photos. Apparently, Photobucket changed hands and went to nasty mode. I've tried to placate them by buying an occasional enlargement.

As it is, they've seriously "watermarked" across the middle of my photos.

If I don't want to subscribe monthly, does anyone know what their next step will be?

Or know their monthly fee?

photobucket is garbage. a few years ago they had a free version and an upgrade for about $19/year. Then suddenly they blocked everyones photos unless you paid something like $29/month.

Just about every forum on the internet was crushed and ruined overnight. I would not use them for free now, since they can not be trusted

there are other free/cheap hosting sites but I have pretty much lost interest in putting the effort

I have never handed over my data to be stored and safe-guarded by an unknown third-party...I don't even use the "cloud", nor any other free storage available to me.

External hard drives are cheap. I keep two backups. Each drive is kept in separate geographies, 3,200 miles apart.

for back up, definitely. But, hundreds or thousands forums like this one encouraged linking images from outside sources instead of providing storage. That was the business model of photobucket until they went rogue and broke half the internet overnight.

I think I'll link to this thread when Photobucket reaches the end of it's twice-weekly dire threats.

As a "social media", it could come in handy after I've written some snail-mail complaints about Photobucket, Neptune Society, Tire Kingdom's incompetence, an unresponded-to letter written to the Mayor of Ormond Beach (midnight towing from motel), and Samsung's inability to repair--under warranty--my new $1400 Flip5 Smartphone. (Broke within minutes upon return--twice). :fire:

As for snail-mail, I did manage to get a non-paying louse out of a Senior lady-friend's house.

My letter to the Sheriff ended with the request to have the Naturalized American (louse) get his naturalized citizenship revoked and get him deported!

Suspecting that others In the Lakes Region have their own gripes with how "business" is conducted today, snail-mail with the promise of social media exposure might just be the ticket!

I use Google Photos as a “cloud” backup but also keep copies on my PC and on a 1TB external SSD. I’m an old guy, I don’t trust the “cloud” as my sole backup.
