Who makes the call to reschedule the derby and when do they make that call? My assumption is that next week is a no go due to mild January weather. Even if some of the bays are frozen, it would seem reckless to move forward with Winni in its current condition. Has this tournament ever been cancelled for the entire winter? How many times has it been moved?

My understanding was that they moved the derby ahead one weekend (11th & 12th) so as not to conflict with the Stuper, er Super, bowl being held on the 5th.

We have an extra week this year ! It's not on Super Bowl Weekend this year but the following week. The derby is run by the Meredith Rotary http://meredithrotary.org/derby/ .

I think the Derby has only been postponed once but there have been a couple of years where fishing was only done in frozen bays. Keep in mind that the fish don't have to come only from Winni. I think there are at least 5 other lakes in NH that have Meredith Rotary Tagged Rainbows in them.

There are at least 10,000 people that are crossing their fingers hoping for ice. (5,000 fishermen and 5,000 wives that want a weekend without them :laugh: )

Thanks. Now I understand why no one is panicing yet. I remember it was on Super Bowl weekend last year. I can certainly see the logic of putting it off a week, especially this year!

I have heard stories that the Derby has been canceled. Can some one confirm this? Our direct me as to whom I should contact.

The Great Rotary Fishing Derby

Still on as of 4 o'clock this afternoon. There is a metting tonight to its' status.
There could be some thing on the 11 o'clock News?

I was stumped when trying to find info about the "DERBY" on Google. Well it looks like we all have been calling it by the wrong name.

it has been moved back a week. to start on the 18th.
