Saw this guy as I was coming up my driveway the other day. Is it a Barred Owl?

Based on the drawing in “Peterson Field Guides” it sure looks like one!!

....We have quite a few that live near us. They have a very distinctive call...

"Hooo....Hooo....Hooo cooks for you...." The first two "hoos" are slightly spaced out, then the "hooo cooks for you" is quick.

Thanks. Slick, did you rotate outside or inside the app? I looked to rotate it inside but didn't find a way.
Interesting that we normally have a lot of hawks around but not lately. Think it's due to this fella?

Lots of ways but in my case right click on the original, copy, open in Photoshop elements, rotate image , save, then upload to the forum.

If you have the image on a PC you can right click on the image then select rotate right or left.

I have those in my woods. I love to hear their call.

At the bottom of the following page, you can >>click<< to hear the call of three owls in our "Northern Tier" of States--plus Canada. Y'know, the USA's largest National Park. ;)

"Thinning" of forest opens up territory for Great Horned Owls--which, after Raccoons--are the primary predator of Barred Owls. :eek:
