I am shopping for a new (used) car and have two cars on my radar.
Hyundai Santa Fe vs Mazda CX5

These are 2020 models, with same features, mileage and within a few dollars of each other in pricing. Both are 'Certified' vehicles. Mazda was a Lease car, the Hyundai was a Personal car.

The Mazda CX5 is Grand Touring with GT Premium Pkg, the Hyundai is SEL with
Premium Pkg.

Looking for feedback from Forum about good, bad and ugly, Pros and Cons for each vehicle.

A bad dealer or one far away can make small problems excruciating.

My suggestion would be to check Consumer Reports for each of these 2020 models so you can make a better informed decision.

Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but one Company is from Korea and the other is from Japan. No idea where each model was actually assembled. And, I believe Ford owns a certain percentage of Mazda (could be easier to obtain parts or service?).

2.5L for Mazda CX5 / 2.4L for Hyundai Santa Fe

Both have pros and cons. Take your pick!

2.5L for Mazda CX5 / 2.4L for Hyundai Santa FeBoth are normally aspirated, so that's one more thing I would've ruled out.

My thoughts: I don't believe either of these companies has better long-term orientation than the other so the differences between their acceptable-failure-rate spreadsheets is probably minimal. As a result, my choice would be based primarily on comfort, layout, ergonomics, etc. and, as mentioned above, dealer.

One of these must *feel* better than the other?

That being the case, I agree with you in leaning heavily towards the Mazda.

Mazda CPO ranks a tie with Honda in third behind Hyundai and Kia.

The dealer really matters.

Does driving to an authorized Mazda dealer (I think Grappone is the nearest) bothersome?
Have you dealt with Irwin? Was it a good experience?

Those are questions you need to answer yourself.

I have owned a ‘19 CX-5 Touring for the last three years (purchased new) and have loved it. I found the price point for heated seats and a sunroof much more attractive than the Hyundai Santa Fe. Prior I had owned two Elantra’s (separately because I loved them so much), and needed to graduate to AWD. Purchased it from Grappone, who had the lowest price in the area. Maintenance has been easy and reasonable, handling is great and I drive an hour each way for work (also love skiing on fresh snow!) and a snowstorm is a breeze with this baby. Gas mileage has kept a running average of 32mpg, some days hits 36! I can’t say enough good things about this car. I have friends who have older models as well who still love theirs.
