View Full Version : Citizen online mostly offline?

Many on this forum rely on the Citizen's online version to keep current with local news. Has anyone else tried to read articles online yesterday and today, and noticed that almost none of them are available?
I do notice that frequently the links don't work early in the AM, and you get a "broken link" message that disappears in an hour or so. Now I'm getting those "page not available" messages, so it's apparently not an issue of the article being in the upload process, but rather some other sort of problem.
I tried to email the editor, and my email was returned because the email address provided in their "contact us" link does not exist! :rolleye2: Perhaps he doesn't want to be contacted!

I too had a problem yesterday, figured it was a momentary glitch, but had the same problem this morning. I tried to sign out and then sign back in again, but the sign out came up page not found. Tried to "contact" them, and couldn't get the "email editor"to come up, either.
Now I feel better....:rolleye2:

One of the reporters for the Citizen is a former employee of mine, and a great guy. I located an email address for him, and sent a message that way.
Hopefully he's in the office today, and not out "gathering a major scoop" !
I've been having trouble opening stories on the Citizen for the last two days. Does anyone know what the problem is? Are they cutting out the on line service?

Problem seems to be solved.

Indeed, it's fixed!
I think I figured out what the problem was ... they were afraid of the article referencing increases in cable television rates! Perhaps a little fear of "shoot the messenger"

I can get to Citizen/Fosters but sometime links within the site get me to the aforementioned URL. Time for another spyware/malware scan. Will let you know if I find anything on my PC.

I've just received a reply email from my former employee who now works as a reporter for The Citizen. He indicates that they've been experiencing many problems with the server, and that they are working diligently to correct the issues.
Prompted by Mee-n-Mac, I did a full threat-scan on my system last night. Blessedly, I found no threats beyond "minor annoyance". I guess my security systems are still working well! :D
Thanks for the reminder, Mee-n-Mac! ;)

I've found that if I try to read the Citizen by going to my "favorites", I'm routed to an unrelated site. However, if a google the Citizen I'm connected. Give it a try.

originally the web site address that i had bookmarked had a 4 after citizen which now routes you to another commercial site. eliminate the 4 and just use citizen and you get to the right site

I found nothing on our PC as well. Like boathousegirl, I could Google to the Citizen but even then some internal links would bring me to another site. Good to see it's them and not some new virus/malware/trick.
As Pepper has indicated, Foster's/Citizen continues to struggle with their on-line editions.
Many problems cropped up when they did their conversions to coax readers to access the site through free online subscriptions. The service was delayed for months due to server & software issues.
These problems have persisted since implementation, but have gotten much worse in the last few weeks.
Hopefully they will get the situation squared away soon. I do enjoy their news coverage and find much interesting stuff on their site. I know they are working hard at resolving the issues facing them, hopefully the persistent bugs plaguing them will be exterminated soon!
Rest assured the problems are on thier end, not yours....
