Just heard a report from Paul Larochelle that the opening of the Ice Runway is not looking good and PROBABLY not going to happen this year!

9" of ice measured in front of Shibley's and 6" as you head West down the bay. With the upcoming warm temps Paul is not confident he will get the 12"-14" required to open...

Paul does a great job and he knows what he is doing! Better safe than sorry!

Alton Bay Seaplane Base and Ice Runway Airport Manager Paul Larochelle announced today that the ice runway would not be opening this winter due to a lack of sufficient ice.

That's too bad. I thought today was the last day.

It's too bad. Last weekend Paul was trying to remain positive and optimistic, but he knew that the forecast just was not conducive to good ice development.

The ice runway is true labor of love for Paul and his crew of volunteers.

Most activities will be in the parking lot instead of on the ice. Several years ago when the ice was thinner too, they had horse drawn wagon rides instead of the sled.
