Question for the Alton area folks:

Is the Mauhaut Shores neighborhood still in existence? I haven't been in there since I was a kid when my parents had some friends that had a place in there. I drove by there a couple weeks ago on the way to ME and noticed from Rte 11 that it appeared to be just a huge construction site in there...it looked like the whole neighborhood had been obliterated, but that was with just a quick glance as we drove by.

Hadn't seen anything in the news or on the web, so thought I'd ask...

Not completely sure about this but I live in the area, though not that specific development. My assumption has been that the construction you can see on the right side of the road is part of the West Alton Marina expansion. I could be wrong and if so, I'm sure I will be corrrected.:emb:

Correct, WAM it tearing up the landscape. If you turn into the Mauhaut Shores Road from Rt 11 and go straight a very short distance you will see the landscape raping straight ahead. However the road then takes a sharp left leaving sight of the mess. The blasting and rock crushing has been going on 2+ years. Not the saddest aspect of WAM, however.
