The Lakes Region Humane Society

The Lakes Region Humane Society serves the communities of Wolfeboro, Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Tamworth, Effingham, and Freedom. The society recently purchased a farm house in Ossipee and is renovating it to be Pet-friendly. Their current location in Tuftonboro is not insulated and the cost of heating the building this winter has the society looking to find temporary homes for all its inhabitants. They could use help with placement of animals (permanent or temporary) and donations. Oh My! What to do? I recently swore I would not bring another new animal into the house! :rolleye2: Yet. Then I checked out that website, and the wheels in my head (and my heart:( ) are turning. I may just have to adjust my thoughts a bit. Perhaps I should take a trip up there and :look:

Breaks my heart to think of those animals. I have always supported selecting animals at shelters over breeders. The picture of my friend on the left we brought him home just about 1 year ago, someone just left him at a local groomer, by coincidence friends of our bumped into the groomer, and told us, I had him home the next day much to the dismay of our 19 year old rescued cat. (who secretly loves him)

I too will be at the lake this Thanksgiving and at the very least will drop off a donation.

Don't forget, in addition to donations, you can also volunteer time. My wife does at the NHHS. All the shelters need help with the animals, admin help, help with fundraising, etc. We just adopted 3 felines which makes for an iteresting household :eek:

My wife and I have long been supporters of the LRHS.

We have fostered a mother cat, (we adopted the Mom) and her nine kittens. Three of her own and six kittens without a mother. All of the kittens were adopted!

We now have 8 cats.... (OK.... no Crazy Cat people jokes) Four from LRHS, one from North Carolina, and two from a local vet that had two Siamese whose elderly owner had passed away and they wanted them to stay together.

As a enthusiastic volunteer for the NHHS, a no kill facility, we are looking for a 'Forever Home' for Ralph. Attached is sweet Ralph's story and photo.

SteveA, You make me feel better, we have four. We originally adopted 3 from the NHHS, and then fostered one who had diabetes (poor guy needed two shots a day). Well, when the foster period was up, guess what? Now we have four :) BTW, we were able to get the diabetes under control, so no more shots.

PLEASE tell me someone has responded to that heartfelt letter regarding Sweet Ralph. I didn't sleep well last night thinking about that poor dog.
I am in a small apartment in MA, no pets, or I would have been up there first thing this morning to get him. There must be someone out there with as soft a heart as is needed to adopt an older dog. I'm sure he would be grateful for a home & someone to call his own. Everytime I think about him I get all teary.

I just spoke w/ NHHS.... they do have a family that wants to adopt. The notation means they are waiting to interview the children.

As someone who is very familar w/ NHHS, I can assure you that they are very careful with the homes they release the animal too.

Stay positive... Ralph will get placed! :)

Hi all-
I went to NHHS today after work to see Ralph and he was in an interview with a couple. I asked if they were taking him home and they said they hoped so! Ralph is a cutie pie, he was looking out the window and he was so happy!
After, I asked an employee if he was going with them, and she said yes!
SO, Ralph has found a forever home! There are more cutie patooties there though....;)

Great News ! Thanks for keeping us all updated jlrm73 and SteveA. The NHHS IS the best place to find a forever friend. It's also a great place to visit because you will always leave with a smile. It's also a great place to help out with donations, especially if you are unable to donate time, there are items the shelter needs every day.
