So I had a thought...is the lake level increase from all this beneficial rain negated by the lack of water displacement from all the boats that have been pulled for the season? Curious minds want to know...

That would be A LOT of boats. Think about the volume of water displaced by your boat at the dock (LxWxD). Now think about spreading the added depth over the LxW of the space between your boat and the others docked nearby, then over the open space of the rest of the lake. My estimate is less than 1" of depth due to boats

Actually, because there are far less boats, the lake would in theory get a bit more shallow. But because those fewer boats mean less fishermen taking home meals, then there are more fish in the lake which counters that decrease in depth almost exactly.

The lake is about 71 sq miles. One inch of water results in about 164,947,200 cubic feet of water. At 62.4 lbs per cubic foot that one inch of water would weigh about: 10 billion pounds.

There are a lot of boats on the lake but, well, not that many. So my guess is that you would be hard pressed to measure any difference.

No one is peeing in the lake now, would that make a difference?

I thought about posting that but I figured someone else would.

I was right. :)

If you are in or on the lake, no. Even if it goes into a holding tank, no. But, back at the marina when you pump out...

Yep, there would have to be 2.5 million boats at an average of 2 tons each removed to make an inch difference.

So on a more serious not, there is another element to the lake level raising.....
The release at lakeport is being held at ~30cfs right now for the normal draw down, down stream...

When they resume the minimum 250 cfs at the end of the two week hold back, I think we will see the lake rapidly drop again. In fact given the low level of Winnisquam I will not be surprise to see them open Lakeport past 250 cfs for a few days....

This is all normal dam operation for this time of year.... unless we get a lot of rain, I expect the lake to go below 502.32 before the end of the year....

Right... you don’t mention moving rocks. You just do it silently and then next spring when people ask you go “ what rocks?”

The ice has been stealing rocks from my breakwater for years. Little caterpillars can sometimes move them back, but is hard to get them organized.
