This will be the first winter that I have a trailer without a boat on it. The boat will spend the winter at the lake. I have parked it (the trailer) in my back yard with the tires resting on some plywood (hopefuly this will reduce the amount of moisture escaping from the ground and directly affecting the brakes). I have also given the tires a treatment of 303 aerospace protectant. Should I do anything to the exposed bolts (ie. WD40)? How should I go about protecting the coupler and winch (it is a cable system). Between the boat itself and shrinkwrapping of exposed mechanics, the trailer has seen little "weather" in the past. Thanks in advance for any input.

My Dad used to put the frame on cinder blocks so the tires were not touching the ground. He even did this when the boat was on the trailer. I always thought it was a little over the top, but he claimed it stopped the tires from getting a flat spot.

I use tire covers available from camper supplys to protect the tires from UV rays. Also shrink wrap the coupler. Put some buckets over the power tongue jack and remove the power winch (2 bolts). Give the fasteners a shot of WD40.
