Was planning to boat tommorrow on Winni, as the temps are still high, mid 80's.

The winds however are predicted to be about 14 mph with gusts to almost 18 mph. The winds will be from the SW.

Will these winds produce a rough chop and possible white-caps?

Thanks for your feedback !

We often refer to this helpful site before venturing out to our place on East Bear Island. Thanks, Don! 🐻

I'm in the north--Moultonborough Bay, not too far from you--and I sail, so I am always looking at the wind speed reports. Sadly, they are often incorrect, even on a real time basis. I have not used Sailflow as Don has posted, but I have used Windfinder Pro, which appears virtual identical, so I assume it's the same data source. I write this off to an insufficient number of stations, and too much extrapolation on the part of the software.

Any thoughts from either weatherheads or other northerners on this?

Another site that uses the same input data:
https://www.ventusky.com/?p=43.575;-71.403;10&l=wind-10m

The Weather Underground Wundermap shows the input stations that vary all over the place.

One of the best sites for consistent, accurate, wind forecasts is www.windfinder.com
Living on the east side of the lake, I've found that using the gust numbers rather than the average wind speed gives me a better indication of what to expect for the day.

That's the one I've been using with real time reports that often differ from what I'm looking at from my dock. Most recent was last week where the report was 9mph, but the water was perfectly flat:(
