An 85 plus year old fellow graduate of Camp Wyanoke on the neck recently mentioned that he vaguely remembers a possible army base near the airport during WWII. I have asked the WWII museum folks if they have any knowledge, they answered that they do not. Does anyone have any idea what my friend might have meant?
Thanks

Most likely he was thinking of the CAP.

The Civil Air Patrol had a presence at the (later-named) "Lakes Region Airpark". 'Way back then, it was just known as the "Wolfeboro Airport".

While the CAP's Wolfeboro presence followed WWII, other civilian airplanes scouted the US' coastlines for enemy submarines, and suffered a generally-unrecognized 64 fatalities.
